This past weekend, Vapor Trail hosted match 1 thru 5 at 1000yds, part of the new Freedom Benchrest Series.
We had a great group of shooters, the weather we experienced, went from as good as it can get to very windy!
When the weather was perfect, these guys took advantage of it.
Jason Chancey started Saturday off with a 1.787” 50,2x in Heavy gun,( we were shooting 5 shot groups in heavy) this was a first at the valley, we have always shot ten, this was decided by the shooters. Everyone got pretty pumped up by Jason’s success. Conditions changed fast to the point , you couldn’t see impacts on the steel, super quick wind changes from 11 to 1 made for some tough shooting, but like always, some guys shoot thru the conditions.
Alan Carmichael and Dan Hullinger were in a league of their own all three days, but in the end Alan never stumbled at all, his two new rifles for 2024 were on point!
Alan went on to win the 5 match two gun overall and for a finisher on Sunday morning Alan shot a 1.594” 45 in heavy gun, 4 of those shots were in 1.006”.
Alan’s last four targets Sunday using two different guns was 3.000” agg , pretty dam impressive. The Rendezvous is going to be hot!
The new Freedom rules and sighter/ record period are the way!
Letting there be innovation in rest improvements and being able to pick when you run your group, in my opinion is going to lead to some amazing groups and aggs.
It is just a matter of time before the magical under a inch at 1000yds is attained, I just hope I’m present to see it and I’m kinda partial, I hope it’s here at the valley
Thanks to everyone that attended and keeps this place going, much appreciated
