6xc small rifle brass primer

I’m gathering up some components for this 6xc barrel I have bought. Will standard small rifle primers work ok or do I need magnums ? I do not plan on running it hot but you never know

CCI 450 or maybe the #41 ? military primers will probably be best; that is a fairly large case for a SR primer.

Well I bought a combo pack. It has 200 pieces of srp brass. I have a stock of both REM 7 1/2 and cci 450s, and 41s

I use 450s in my Creedmoors, so I'd use that for the XC as well.

I run the cci 450s in my Peterson brass and I run 200s in my Norma brass in my other rifle. I can't make one out shoot the other. They both shoot great.

If you go to davidtubb.com and find the Petersen brass he sells he has his recommendations for small rifle primers to use with the SRP Petersen brass. I believe it is the Remington 7 1/2‘s.

I have used 205M and 210M in my 6XC brass for years. 450s did not shoot better when tested. BR4 were also very good.

With the higher pressures it will obtain, probably best to use the heavier cup primer i.e. Rem 7.5, # 41.
Your loads and rifle/chamber will tell you which is best.

In my experience, it will depend on the powder that you use. Slow powders, like H4350 will be more reliable with the large primers. Varget, H4895 etc., you can get away with using a small primer, but I have never had good luck with the small primers and slow powders.

I suggest trying it for yourself. My H4350 load in 6.5 Creedmoor has an SD of 7, in a 20+ round string. CCI 450s and H4350....

Yes. Peterson makes it in both. Norma brass is LR only.

Yes that’s right

There should be no issues for SRP in a 6XC. SRP are used in a 308 with slow powders and heavy bullets successfully.
Primer pockets should last a bit longer than LRP .

I was using the CCI-450 with this barrel. Rem 7 1/2 was not as good with my testing.

Both rem 7.5 and cci 450s are excellent.

Tubb prefers the Rem.
