Any Android or Apple tablet will work fine. Some kindles are problematic with hook up.
The Boox tablets are great but pricey.

Samsung tablets work fine with the electronic targets.
I do believe they work better than some of the Kindles I've used.

I use my iPhone and a retired Samsung pro tablet. Tablet is obviously easier to see and works very well, but phone works quite nicely. Battery life can be an issue with both but I use external batteries.

Later this week I intend to go to the range with my SM-Solo & try my Amazon Kindle Fire. I'm hoping it works since it has a much better battery life.

I’ve been using the Chinesium ZZB 10” tablet off Amazon since the gen 1 Silver Mountains came out. Heck, the price is down to $55 now. I don’t worry if it gets beat, it’s for range use ONLY.

It works fine with Shotmarker too.

I use a Lenovo M8 (Android) dedicated to my shotmarker and it works like a champ. The new Lenovo Tab M9-2023 (9" 2023 model) is $125 on Amzn which is probably what I'd replace it with.

edit: i would skip the Amzn Fire tablets. They use a "forked" version of Android which I didn't have a great experience with no matter how cheap they are.

Back when they held FCNC on e-targets @ Lodi the first time, the club supplied cheap Lenovo tablets were pretty spotty as far as wifi signal. Literally if you laid them down flat on the ground - and they didn't come with a stand - it obscured the antenna enough to drop the connection. Didn't affect your score - other than not being able to see the shot location - but it was disconcerting to say the least.

Apple and Samsung tablets, for those who brought their own, worked so much better under the same conditions that some competitors were badgering the match officials that those shooters had an 'unfair advantage' because they didn't have the big red 'X' across their screen half the string.

Nowadays... I'd worry more about a) having it on a stand, and b) having some sort of box/cover for inclement weather. Rain drops or sun glare, either one, makes for a less-than-ideal situation.

No - ebook readers don't work with Shotmarker ...ask me how I know...but do work with Silver Mountain. I don't know the technical reason - probably the fault is with the browser in the Ebook devices. I'm still looking for the good solution, which is probably anything with a no-reflective screen. I use an old iPad in a black wooden box that I made.

Most quality/common tablets work fine with the wifi
The biggest problem Ive seen is overheating of the tablet, try to keep it in the cooler between matches, better yet have 2

I’ve used a few different iPads, and the only issue I’ve had is that they tend to overheat in the sun. I’m not sure if that’s a common issue with all tablets or specific to iPads, but it’s frustrating when it happens.

Lenovo is the brand supplied with a Shot Marker if you have one included in the purchase of their system. I don't have the model number handy. They clean all the programs not needed off the thing.

On some older models, they have to be charged on a genuine Mac charger - or they don't get the full charge. Yours? or just bad batteries. My iPad 4 will run all day on half a battery.

iPads work, I use an ACER Chromebook because the screen is big and keypad makes a nice stand. I only use a cellphone as an emergency bigger screen is nice. One thing people don't think about is you want something that is a light color. On a hot day the black or dark colored ones will soak up the heat and shut off. White or silver works great.

I use my iphone as a second screen and it can be manipulated by the firing hand alone. With that said I use an old refurb Ipad2 as the antenna is great and the screen is good. Glare on tablets can be fun but a lot use a cover of sorts to stash the tablet up into at prone matches. I try to use the shady areas around my cart when not in use to hide from sun just to protect them. My ipad 2 has a great battery life, will run on SM or SMT all day. I started with a Amazn HD 7 or 8 tablet way back when SMT was new. but found that antenna system was not as good as the ipad. If you need a Rx lens to read you will want a larger tablet to see impacts. Or have Rx in shooting glasses.
