Powder question help!

I recently went to an estate sale and bought a big cabnet full of powders ,bullets, reloading books, presses and such for 150.00 was awsome deal. However in it I found powders I have never seen or used . 1st is sr-4756 I looked it up and I guess I could use it in my 45 according to load data . More research is needed . But my total inability to find data for (dupont 4531) is making me scratch my head . Powder is still good hate to throw it away but don't know what guns I can use it in . I have many rifles and calibers but am lost on this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and thanks for allowing me to your forum. Mike hall

Unless you actually knew and trusted the person very highly, sounds like you bought a pig in a poke.
There are very few I trust with powders OR primers.
SR 4756 I believe was discontinued, fairly popular powder years ago.
There are several DuPont and Winchester powders that are no more and data is hard to find, mostly shotgun powders.

Buddy bought some primers from a widow lady in the height of one of the scares. He bought what he thought were SR, I really think he got some SP primers mixed in. Dump both out and the. Try and sort them.

Powder is still good
Determined how?
All cans sealed, never opened? No rust or growing cardboard?
Personally, I could never do what you did.
Purchase powder from an unknown source.
I just couldn’t. But that’s me.
Best of luck with your ‘find’.

I stand corrected. No mention of the Dupont 4531 in Lyman 45 from 1970.

Maybe these pages from the manual will help some. Good luck.

Mike,
Welcome to the forum.
I’ve never heard of 4531 but that don’t mean much. If you have a lot of it you might hold onto it until you can obtain some data if it’s just a pound I would save it for your vegetable garden.
I’ll be hauling cattle to La Grande tomorrow hope it’s still not snowing that direction. Good luck, nice find and looking forward to seeing more posts from you.

Still sold at Midway. Go to the website. It's a shotgun powder.
Product Overview
Production of IMR powders dates back over 200 years when the company was originally founded by E.I DuPont. Available for use in many reloading applications, the IMR series of powder is trusted by reloaders all across the globe.
IMR SR 4756 is fine-grained, easy-metering propellant has long been a favorite of upland and waterfowl handloaders. Top velocities with great patterns are legendary. Like 800-X, SR 4756 performs extremely well in the big handgun cartridges. Always a top choice.

Dupont 4531 cannot find any info. I would toss both powders. You still got a good deal without powders and primers.

There was Scot 4351 from Brigadier Powder in the late 80s/early 90s time period. It was the original short cut 4350. I still have a pound. The powder I have was & still is a real close match to the original "Newly Manufactured" H4350 (long grain) & an 8# can of IMR 4350 from that time.

Scot was also available in 4197, 3032, & 4065.

I am just going to dump the 4531 . It really don't hurt my reloading supply . I already have a ton of powder and thousands of primers and bullets thanks to hillery campaign. She said they would go after ammo so I started buying then, have plenty for an apocalypse lol. Was mainly just curious about powders I have never seen and delta with. Thanks for the info

And you also helped the widow...

What age does this powder look to be? I sound like some of the DuPont enduron powder. But those are relatively new and will be in a plastic bottle. Does that sound like what you have? don't be in a rush to toss it, It doesn't require being feed or vet bills. Many members over at Cast Bollits are well versed on older or obscure products. you may want to try over there. Wish I was more help.
