I have a strait taper one in 223 on a R700. I have been shooting it lately and it has showed me some great accuracy. One holers at 100. Plenty good for what you want. I wouldnt pay Kreiger or Bartlein money for one but they are much better than a factory crapshoot. Look on their website and you can find a taper that will work for you at a decent price. if you are a veteran they will give you a discount.

It means I could not consistently be in the top three at matches. You might stay in the top half or third but that was it.Instead of shooting .150 or better in load development it was more around .250 to .300. They where all 6mm?. Great varmint barrels but not what I like for competition. Great for a hunting rifle. There was one though that was wonderful.

I have two, one is a straight taper 22-250, the other short sporter taper 222. I don’t shoot competition, my goal with both of these rifles was sub .5 Moa, both barrels met that with ease. I wouldn’t pay top tier pricing for one simple because at that pricing you can get a Krieger, Mueller, Brux…… but for the price you pay they are a great value and much better than a factory barrel imo.

I've had several. They are FAR better than most factory rifle barrels I'm familiar with. They have or used to have a "Premium Air guaged"(???) option. You'll be fine with that for deer and ground hogs. JME. WD

I have 3 rifles re-barreled with Douglas barrels. All shot significantly better than their factory counterparts. However, I am a varmint / predator hunting, not a benchrest or F class long range shooter. My smith highly recommends them, and he had been re-barreling rifles for over 30 years.

I also have one rifle re-barreled with a Hart barrel. It also shoots significantly better than the factory counterpart.

In my experience, the one essential and important aspect to accuracy is the bedding. Unless the rifle is properly bedded and the barrel free floated, I don't believe you can achieve the maximum potential of a custom aftermarket barrel.

I have one on a 98 Mauser sporter in 270 WIN. Shoots fantastic! Shoots inexpensive130 grain Speer Grand Slam bullets into half an inch at 100 yards very consistently.

Bought one last summer for my 30-06 tikka. They did the chambering, threading, and crown. I got the top of their barrel grade type. Absolutely great. Shot great from round 1. Doesn't copper foul nearly at all. and they did it like in 4-5 weeks. Maybe less. Cold barrel vs 2nd shot is even really nice. just about 3/4" POI difference. This is all in a wood stock that I bedded myself. The only complaint I have is that I waited so long to try them.

Edit to add: I got my hunting load tuned down to 5/8" groups very quickly. Was really surprised. This was with 150gr speer Hotcores. The one test with the 178gr ELD-x bullets is leading to the same results.

Had Douglas fit a premium grade stainless Remington varmint contour in .222 Remington to an older Remington factory varmint 700 BDL. The rifle shoots 5 shot groups that measure .5-.6 inches at 100 yards from the bench with old stock 52 grain Speer Gold Match bullets over 19.5 grains of IMR4198. Rifle is pillar bedded and has an after market trigger.

There is probably well more accuracy to be had in proper gunsmithing than there is in the barrel maker. This does not mean that some barrel brands are not "typicaly" producing more accuracy but it should be noted that you should probaby be worrying more about you gunsmith than your blank. Additionally working up a load vs buying ammo off a shelf can make a world of difference in accuracy.
Douglas should be well above what would be needed for the average hunting rifle. Go for it and enjoy.

i was going to have them in stall and chamber the barrel.thoughts on thier work doing this .again its just a hunting gun .the barrel will be 28 inches long fininshed in 300 weatherby or 7mm on the 300 weatherby case.taper will be a heavy sporter like the remington varmint
