Need a new scope

My current scope just doesn't do it any longer. I am afraid the 25X is not good enough for these 73 year old eyes. At the SWN I couldn't hold off between the lines of the X, 10, 9 etc. Just couldn't make them out clearly like I used to. Thinking Golden Eagle or something like that. Question the SCR is plain cross hair and the ECR is an interrupted T with a dot. Are the cross hairs fine or fat. I prefer the Dot type like I had on my Leupolds, but it can't be too big. What say you? I bought a something to 60X but at 40 and above it was not clear. They are pretty free with saying 60 when it should really be 35 or so.

I'll be that guy......Had a GE, Have a Night Force Comp, have a March
High Master......Note, I said "Had" a GE......For the money, get the NF
Comp at 15-55, and dial it where you need it for that particular relay.
Some I know went with a Valdada, and are not complaining. It's only
money......

If you like the dot type like I do, I use the DDR-2 on the Night Force,
and the MTR-2 on the March.

I have a GE. Great scope, holds zero very well. The warranty is better than premium, turrets click with authority and parallax is pretty easy to tune. However, the glass is a big drawback. I'm 20 yrs your junior and I have difficulty making out rings. It begins to darken substantially at 40X and the edges soften. It's not a flaw in the scope and for what I spent I'm happy with my purchase...for now. I have the ECR and the size of the dot is very appropriate in my opinion. I sometimes find where the scope lacks in clarity can be advantageous for reading mirage without the aide of another spotter. Overall, for the money I don't think you'll find a better bang for the buck, and let me again mention Great Warranty! This is Vortex gaining market share and they have succeeded.

If the cost can be absorbed:
The NF, March or Kahles have excellent glass, far superior to the GE. I cannot speak of my own testing on these other brands holding zero as well as a GE but many others here will attest they have proven their place as a top tier scope, capable of sustaining heavy recoil and staying put. Finding a reticle that suits you as well as a mil-dot maybe a challenge as I'm unfamiliar with their offerings and you may have a few more hoops to jump through for warranty especially if you buy used.

I have a Vortex GE and looked through a buddy’s Trijicon 5-50 ten mile and liked it much better if you could have the extra weight. Just my two cents.

I agree with the guys who say don't get the GE if you're worried about optical quality. It took me 5 minutes with a GE to realize my regular Sightron SIII's were superior optically. I now have a Kahles, NF Comp, and Sightron SV that are another small step up (traded a March for the Kahles - they're about equal to my eyes).

Tom - I have issues seeing the dot on both the Golden Eagle and the NF Competition scopes with my older eyes. The aiming dots on both of these scopes subtend .095 MOA at the manufacturer's magnification setting. The .095 MOA dot subtension translates to approximately .106 MOA at 36X magnification (for an apples-to-apples comparison). Under conditions of low light such as the first match early in the morning or on a fairly cloudy day, I cannot resolve the dots at all against the F-Class target black.

I also have several older NXS 12-42 scopes that have a floating dot reticle (NP-2DD). The floating dot in these reticles tranlsates to approximately 0.116 MOA at 36X, or approximately 10% larger than the NF or Vortex scopes. Although I can see these dots better, they still can be difficult for my eyes to resolve against the F-Class target black under conditions of low light. I also have an IOR-Valdada scope that has a true 0.125 MOA (eighth minute) dot that I can easily see without any issues whatsoever, even under conditions of low light.

Reticle subtensions can be an important issue for those of us whose vision is not what it once was when considering a new scope purchase. As perhaps an extreme example, I simply cannot use a NF Comp scope or the Golden Eagle at all any more. A reticle that cannot be seen by the user is useless. I would strongly suggest looking further, and when you find something you think might work, find a way to get a look through one with your own eyes. Nothing else can tell you with certainty whether a particular scope or reticle will work out like looking through it with your own eyes.

For my 25c...Kahles 10-50 or the March 10-60 HM. I have both - I'm not sure which I prefer and my eyes are pretty old. I would like to have a look at Sightron 's latest...and I think that the Majesta is a little out of the price range right now.

I suggest March 10-60 with the 3/32 dot reticle.

Let me go back on my statement about March's MTR-2. It's
probably the smallest dot of them all. I'll be 72 this year with
eyes of a 20 year old. I love that dot especially when trying to
tag those UBR dots. I could see where some would struggle
using it.

I also have multiple long range scopes and I feel that you just cant beat the good ole NF 12 x 42 Benchrest NP2DD.

If your budget allows it, the March 10-60 or 8-80 with the MTR-4 or MTR-5
has thicker lines and a bigger floating dot.
Both have hold-offs for F class.

Not to be ignorant but your's must be the best one on the market. Those 2 scopes are in the same class. Some things I like about the GE better some things I like about the S3 better. In the end I HAD two GE's I still have four S3's. You just have to look through them and determine for yourself which one works the best for you.

Have you had yours eyes checked by an opthamologist? I had a similar situation develop a few years ago and while some scopes/reticles were a bit better none of them gave the clear image I was used to. I went to a opthamologist and he discovered that I was developing a cataract, I had an implant done and the issue was solved. Just a thought for you before you start spending money on scopes.
