Savage Barrel Nut ID

Old Navy

I am having trouble getting the right barrel nut for my Remage barrel. Looks like they have sent me a small shank Savage nut. Can someone give me the ID of the non-threaded part of a small shank? The ID of the one they sent is 1.090". Thanks Frank

"The Savage Target action which I’m sure you are all aware comes threaded 1 1/8-20 (1.125 dia. OD) UN for the large shank barrels and the small shank barrels use 1 1/16-20 (1.050 dia. OD) UN."

I am a little confused now. I just measured the thread. They are 16 treads. What do I have?

^ what he said.

Easiest way to tell a Savage large shank nut from a small shank nut is the overall length. The bigger nut is shorter - like about 5/8" or so. Very visibly different when you have them side by side.

I will start over. I was trying to buy a slotted Savage style nut for a Remage barrel. Their nut on the left on top of my Remage barrel. Second photo I just dropped a large shank Savage nut down on it. I just emailed them both photos. No phone number of course.

I get 1.078" for the forward part of a small shank Savage barrel nut.

Got burrs on the barrel threads? Can you check the thread OD? Does the barrel screw in to your action?

The threads on a Remington should be 1-1/16"-16 tpi. So, the major diameter on the barrel should be ~1.0625". That nut with a 1.090" ID should rattle down until the threads engage.

The top of the threads measure. 1.122" ( major diameter ) on my barrel. That is the part the the 1.090" has to slide over.

Have you had this barrel screwed into the action yet.
Those don't look like 16 TPI on it.
They sent the correct Nut. You have the wrong barrel.
(1.125 dia. OD) UN for the large shank barrels
Yes I did. I have too many barrels. I was trying to fit that nut to one of my large shank Savages. Found the right barrel and it fits. My wife passed away years ago from Alzheimer's. I have often thought it might be contagious. Thanks to all that tried to help this old dude.

+1. The barrel also doesn't have a Rem counterbore. The breech is flat like a Savage.
You are right it is a Savage. I finally found a Remington barrel and it screwed right on. Turned 80 last Dec. and have gone straight down hill. Thanks.
