Anyone have any recent experience with Savage take offs? Looking at 300 WM for hunting/varmint shooting

Do the research on factory twists.

I bought for beer money a new factory 7-08 take off with an 11T. They only made it for a very short period.... I bought it on purpose for shooting cast 140's at blistering speeds. To say the previous owner was pi$$ed having to replace a brand new barrel was an understatement. He bout fell over when I actually wanted it.

Good luck with your project.

I have a savage 300 win.mg. take off barrel with appox. 100 rounds on it. 26 inch light. varmint fluted br. I will let go for 100 $$. Plus shipping.

I have a 300 WSM unfired takeoff. Been sitting on the shelf for 10+ years......$125 shipped.

I have a 300 wm savage 116 stainless barrel. Fluted 21.5" plus factory break, less than 150 rounds. Shot great just rebarreled to a prc. 150 .00 shipped. Bill

To answer one question, the newer take offs shoot very well, the ones that are 20+ years old not so much.
I too have had wonderful experiences with the Savage barrels. I have a lot of custom barrels by Brux, Lilja, Krieger, Broughton and Bartleen. The truth is some of these Savage barrels shoot every bit as well as they do and some even better,

When Savage updated their machinery several years ago they went from blah to pretty good. You can't make good barrels on worn out antiques. Well, once in a while, but the machinery being used today makes it pretty rare to get a bad one from MOST manufacturers.

I have some Savage barrels that are 15 years old and they shoot one tiny hole. High 1's to very low 2's 5 shot groups. Of course the were all like new barrels. Not worn out junk.
