3.250Is the case length 3.250 or 3.500?
AppreciatedThe book I have lists a lot of cautions about loading this cartridge. It's the earliest .450 N.E. 3 1/4, and the brass is a bit thin, so it won't handle a lot of pressure. It also recommends getting a cerrosafe cast of the chamber as well as part of the bore to check all dimensions since there were many of them made to different specs.
The loading data is: 465gr bullet CCI250 primers
H4831.........95grs..............2058fps
H4831..........101grs...........2196fps
IMR4350......88grs.............2059fps
IMR4350......95grs..............2244fps
RL19...............94grs..............2048fps
RL19................99grs.............2186fps
Originally it was loaded to regulate at 2150fps in double rifles. I would be leary of trying a solid copper bullet in it before I had done some testing with it using either a cast lead or cup and core bullet first and verifying that it was indeed a .450 3 1/4 and not a .450 N.E. #2, which is a bottlenecked cartridge.
