This Fall, I decided to rejoin the ranks of the 6 power shooters and build a Hunter Gun for NBRSA/IBS competition. One of my local pals had sold his Kodiak Hunter gun many years ago and I tried to follow that gun and see if I could buy it as a new Kodiak was many, many months out. As so often happens, that gun got lost in the vortex....went back and forth through several owners and finally the trail went cold. But a chance conversation got me in contact with the guns current owner and I bought the action and stock as a starting point. That gun is what I call the Rat Rod....I've posted about it here before.
While I was searching for it, I posted a Wanted ad here for a Kodiak. Through another round of talks that took me from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Missouri to Oklahoma, one was located. Quick like a bunny, it was on the way here. It was as described and all was good. I took everything down and did a thorough cleaning and inspection....new firing pin spring, etc. But something was gnawing at me...that little voice inside my head telling me I was missing something obvious. The Rat Rod was on the cradle across the room and I put it alongside the action I just got. Now, Kelbly's serializes their actions by putting the year first and then the number of that action. That's when I saw it...these actions are sequentially numbered.
