Last week I was talking to an acquaintance who told me that he was interested in reloading .45 ACP. I told him that I still had my old Lee Pro 1000 set up for .45 ACP that he could have for free (I now use a LoadMaster). All he needs to get is a scale, powder measure, adjustable charge bar and a collator tray. He has some brass and he's on his own for bullets and primers! He was thrilled and we will be setting things up soon.
So I was surprised a couple days ago when he showed up with a stout cardboard box for me. Opening it, I found 23 20-round boxes of Lake City (1989) 5.56 ammo. He had thought at one time that he wanted an AR to shoot with his son (lives 150 miles away) but changed his mind. Now the fact that LC 89 is what about 90% of my brass is, I was ecstatic.
Since I don't own an AR (and don't plan to), and won't shoot 5.56 ammo in my .223 chamber (Yeah...I know somebody will tell me all about how safe it is, but I don't run diesel in my car, gasoline in a kerosene lamp or use a flathead screwdriver on a philips screw either - besides, why run over 400 rounds of ammo other than select loads down a good barrel just get brass?), yesterday I ran down the road to my neighbor's to ask him for a 'favor'. I asked if he and his son (both own ARs) would help me out and shoot up my ammo...with the condition that I get the brass back. He didn't hesitate to say yes. Sure, I could pull the bullets and process the brass, but heck, someone should get a little extra fun too!
Pretty good week. I get rid of a press and such that has been taking up space, make a guy very happy to be getting a press, make a neighbor happy with ammo to burn, and myself happy by adding to my stash of LC brass!
Life can be good.
