Mack Bros Actions

Much better! Lol. I could live with that. I am sure it is a fine action for the price point and market it is in. Just a quirk I have, but my custom actions have to be pleasing to my eye. Thanks Al.

Good looking action for sure

How do you see a dealer list?
I looked on the website but didnt see a list of dealers

Thanks @AlNyhus for the clarifications on the quirks. I don't think a single one of those would impact what I would be using it for, but I am glad to have more detail all the same.

For me, it's really down to this Mack Bros EVO II and the Kauger VPR. I go back and forth weekly between which of the two I will eventually buy.

I just finished a build on an EVO 2 single shot. 222 Remington, Lilja 1-12” twist HV contour at 24”. I’ve built rifles on most actions available and I was impressed with the Mack Bros. I’m early into load development and have been shooting 3 shot groups for ladder tests. All three powders I’ve tried are showing very good promise…W748-24.6g 0.114”. H322-22.2g 0.070”. IMR 4198 - 20.0g 0.093”. All with Berger 52 FB. Not sure if results are due to the Mack Brothers action but it sure didn’t cause any issues. Agree 100% about firing pin spring being hard to compress on bolt opening. My advice is buy one and never look back.

Do you think it would accept a standard 700 firing pin spring ?
Or is the pin shorter
Not even close, Tim. Here's the Mack pin and spring assembly:

One found it's way onto my bench yesterday. I really like it. If they had Lefty models I'd get one.

These are rounds 6-10 and 12-16 from my Mack hunting rifle. It’s a 12 twist BRA. I intend to start load development tomorrow. This is just a grain below my old powder charge seated to touch the lands. I spent the remainder of the first 100 rounds shooting jackrabbits.

Good actions. Hate the trigger hanger design for the reasons Al outlined, but also it doesn't work well with all Rem patterned triggers. Put a Shilen trigger in one, had to notch the hanger to get it to even fit, then had to file the tang at front to get it to mount. Filed a notch in the rear pillar to clear, as well.

That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to get another now knowing this specific combo isn't ideal.

Pete, I've got a single shot version. For a replacement 700, they're a very nice action with a lot of good features. If you're considering it for a real Benchrest action...like for Hunter class...it has some quirks that wouldn't work for me. But then again, that's not the market they are serving.

A few shots of mine. I added a center action screw and floated the tang when bedding it:
