RPR trigger

G.day,
First I'm the furthest thing from a gunsmith.
I have a Ruger RPR, I thought I would adjust the trigger. Following the directions in the manual I took the Allen wrench out of the bolt shroud and inserted it into the hole too adjust the trigger. Couldn't make contact with any kind of screw. Took the lower receiver off the upper to expose the trigger and found there is no adjustment screw, no spring either.

Not getting any help from Ruger, one can only wait on hold for so many hours or send so many emails until one just gives up.

So, I assume there is supposed to be a spring under a set screw. I searched for parts or where to go to find some, or the dimensions of these parts but I'm not much of a computer guy and don't really know what I'm doing when I turn one on.

My question is where do I find a spring and adjustment screw for my rifle? Or where do I go to get the dimensions of these parts?.

I'm guessing from the G.day you're not in the US? Ruger here has been nothing but helpful when I've called. They shipped me a couple springs from the stock I lost in the field for free a couple weeks ago.

Are you the original owner of the gun? I think some of the internet geniuses remove that screw and spring.

Just to be clear, you're talking about the "Trigger Spring" (part #7 in picture below) and the Trigger Adjustment Screw (part # 19 in picture below)?

When I got my .308 RPR I removed the Trigger Spring and put the adjustment screw back in so I'd have the minimum amount of pull, which came to ~12-14 oz and the trigger functioned just fine for me over 3800 rounds fired with no issues. I even tried different springs, like one from a ball point pen and it worked, but of course you still need the adjustment screw in place. These days I have a Timney trigger installed in my RPR and have no use for the factory trigger. So, maybe we can work something out; just PM me.

Yes, not in US but dialed the US number directly, spent about three hours on hold in two days and no reply to email. Maybe they were just overwhelmed the times I called. They are off until the 12th now, I may try again next week.

Yes I bought the firearm new still in the sealed box.

Is it just a set screw, if so do you know the size? 6-32. 8-36, 10-24 ...?

Yes, items 7 and 19.

Would like to have them and try different trigger pressures.

Phoned the Canadian dealer, Korth Group, left them a message explaining my problem. Got a call back the next day, the woman gave me the number of the shop that does warranty and service for Ruger. He told me to email pics which I did and now says he will mail me the parts. When he gets them from Ruger, no timeline. Unless those parts fell out, I've been shooting without the screw and spring since I bought the rifle and did't even know it.

I tried the ballpoint pen spring and removing the spring all together. Without a spring, when dry firing I had reset issues. With the ball point pen spring, the actual trigger weight was less of a pull than the thin safety trigger thing in the middle of the trigger. Because of that, I did not like the feel because the majority of the pull was on that thin middle thing and the actual trigger wasn't really being used.

I purchased a spring from MCarbo that they make for other Rugers to replace the original RPR spring and it works great. I've had zero issues shooting or dry firing and my pull is a touch under 16 Oz and it feels great

Speaking of that thin blade in the middle of the bow or whatever that part of the trigger is called, what is it's purpose? When I first got mine I thought it had a two stage trigger, press the middle blade thingy until it clicks and then the the rest is a hair trigger, but no. It doesn't seem to do anything. Just for looks?

Its purpose is to increase safety in the event the gun is bumped hard or dropped. The sear won't release until that blade is pulled back. Try pulling the trigger back without pulling the blade and it shouldn't fire.

Ahh! I did just that, pulled the rifle out and tried to fire the trigger with the blade not depressed, like you said it would not fire. Thanks for the info and help with the spring and screw.

I like the feel of the trigger release and have had no trouble with it live or dry fire, which I do lot. If I hadn't tried to adjust it, just to see what other pressures were like I wouldn't have known anything was amiss.

I thought the setscrew had just come loose and fallen out along with the spring but it apears they were left out during assembly.
After Straightshooter was kind enough to send me a spring and setscrew, thank you, I tried to put the spring into the hole but it wouldn't fit. I removed the lower receiver along with the trigger group an found one has to partially dismantle it to install the spring and once the rifle is re assembled the setscrew can be adjusted but cannot be removed. Shipping a firearm with trigger parts missing is pretty poor quality on Ruger's part I'd say.

I know this is an old thread, but my recently purchased RPR also came without the set screw and spring. I think the set screw is M4 x 0.7, can anyone confirm the set screw size?

Well, my .308 Gen 2 RPR worked just fine without the screw and spring; no issues at all with the trigger and I liked the light trigger pull I got. I no longer have the screw or spring as I gave it away a long time ago. At nearly 10k rounds fired, I did put a Timney trigger in and have been just as happing with it as it as it give me the nice low trigger pull I like.
