Pro shot brushes…..funny thing

I bought a bunch of pro shot brushes in individual packaging recently and funny thing after a pass down the barrel on the pass back the brush pulls out of the threaded holder, I’ve been using pro shot for ever and this has never happened I took a look at the swagging and it is decidedly different then some older pro shot brushes ( see photos)

A few back I received a batch of Dewey "no harm" bronze brushes, 224 caliber with the crimp applied too low resulting in a "belling" effect at the end of the stud housing the brush. This was a significant problem for 223 caliber bore since the stud would impinge on the throat even using a bore guide.

I called Dewey and they promptly replaced my order with brushes properly crimped. The crimp should extend to the end of the stud holding the brush. Since then, I inspect all new orders of bronze brushes to make sure they are crimped properly.

This is not a significant issue for large calibers, over 6mm since there is plenty of clearance.

About 6” I put the rod in the muzzle end very carefully until I contacted the brush then pushed until it fell out the chamber end….really my only option as I saw it…..
That's about all I can think of. If they shipped out a batch, it's going to make for a lot of angry shooters that pull back the bore. Thank You for the heads up and will check in the future before using any new brushes regardless of brand.

This is the exact reason I don't pull a brush back up a rifle bore... Been there done that... Luckily it just came unscrewed and I was able to screw it back on and push it out... Pistol is a different story at least you can see it if this happens...

He Fellers, I also buy brushes by the dozens, had a group that started coming off on the back stroke. I had already opened the packages and put them in my cleaning drawer according to the caliber in their respective slots and they were mixed with what I already had in stock and I couldn't tell which was which. I took a long handled professional electrician pliers that had a single tooth slot for crimping aluminum sleeves and recrimped them all, pain in the rear when they come off in the barrel.... I like the soldering idea but the crimping tool worked perfectly... John

I called them, after I sent them a picture they understood completely and apologized profusely this is a known problem they had a new machine and operator and are aware that there is/was a problem, they claim they are sending me out a bunch of replacement brushes……we shall see……

There are not allot of makers you can buy but the dozen....
I didn't have to use so much heat that it would go that up the wire..... No fear there.

Is there a lot number on the bag of a dozen so others can be on the lookout for the suspect lot? Or perhaps there is no traceability lot number on the bags.
