The "New .40S&W"

If you are required to shoot from the low or high compressed ready position you will not like the porting, especially in reduced light.
Done that, no real problem and anything in that class has flash, especially with a 2-3” barrel.
I’ll take that porting every time in a large bore.

It is all about placing either 9mm or 40S&W in the right spot, most of those the drive themselves to a hospital, ( as one post mention) with not only a 9mm, have done it with 223/5.56 and other calibers, 99% if the time from being hit not in a vital spot and with the FMJ bullets that the shooters, more often buy and shoot.

Yes, I should have said from the retention position, the upward blast is directly in the shooters face. But everyone is on their own and if it works for you, obviously your choice.

This is a good read about incapacitating/caliber/number of shots.

This, ... is the reason I come here! Always a very lively group of members with either insight or hindsight as to the subject at hand. It's always great to learn from other members.

Yes I still have at least a half dozen or more 9's sitting around somewhere and I'm about to either trade into or buy another one. And Charlie-NY, yes it it will be a Kahr, most likely a CM9. I let my other Kahrs get away and I have been looking at the current Kahr lineup and it's time to go back to the future and have another one.
This one I will probably load down to about .38 special specs, simply because if I ever have to use it I want it to enter the bad guy and bounce around in him so it can work and not just zip through him into the house next door at 1100fps.

Yes i still have my .40's and .45's as well. Thanks guys.

Through out this entire discussion of handgun rounds nobody mentions the 38 Super. The down side is ammo cost, because law enforcement and the military are not producing rounds for it. Because of that it lives the Cinderella story, waiting for it to be rediscovered. The recoil pulse is much easier to shoot then the 9mm. The down side is you loose your brass when you floors are a washed in a sea of 9mm fired cases. Even the Para 1911 I bought because they were on sale, is accurate. I have no issues carrying in condition 3. Shoot one it will bring a smile home with you.

On a trip to the big city, I got into a carry gun conversation. My friend had a little 22 Magnum six shooter in his pocket. I was starting to form a comment in my brain about how a bigger, higher capacity gun would be better, but he asked me what I was carrying before I got it out. I sheepishly said “Nothing.”:(
That woke me up. Now I don’t go anywhere without either a Glock 27 or my Sig 365.
I carry a little NAA .22 with CCI velocitors sometimes and of course nobody in a gun fight never said , damn I wish I had a smaller gun but I promise you it will go all the way through a plastic 55 gallon drum so it would hurt... Plus there's another 5 behind that first one... NAA has all the data on their website for the .22 and the .22 mag and with the short barrel I choose the .22 because it's even smaller and with a nice little leather holster it drops in the front pocket of cargo shorts and is about the size of a pack of smokes even with a few extra rounds... I promise you it will get someone's attention as soon as they stop laughing.... It's tiny..lol

To the op , if you want serious power go to the 10mm auto.... I've seen little girls shoot it I've seen my wife shoot mine and I only know one guy who thinks it's to much gun... I've lost some respect for him..lol... It's a crazy accurate caliber and you can create the lead you want from mild .40s$&w to bear killing power house loads....
The rounds you buy from academy might as well be .40s&w rounds but there's a couple of manufacturers out there who aren't scared... I load my defense rounds from a 180gr Hornady XTP hollow point at about 1230 fps... What's even better in the Glock 20 there's 15 right behind the first one and another two fifteen round mags , although if 2-3 rounds don't solve your problems then you have definitely bitten off to much and running away should be in your future...

When comparing same size 40/9 CC handguns you only lose 1 round capacity (27 vs 26)
Try some Longshot powder if you want to see what a 40 is capable of. A 9mm is not even close.

Quite awhile ago I read an article about 1 shot "end the threat" calibers.
40 cal and above were the ones listed.

I think the 9mm Luger was rated as a 1.3 shot average to end the threat. So basically on average it was a 2 shot end of threat caliber.

9mm Kurz (380 Auto) was 1.7 shots if I remember correctly, so definitely a 2 shotter (or more).
