It should be a crime to ceracoat a #1.
Congrats! They are a lot of fun!Well, I went back for a closer look. It is a red pad rifle and the coating is like a burnt bronze and I must say nicely done. The stock is in very good shape with very minor usage wear. Bore looks good and has a nice trigger that breaks at a hair over 2 pounds. I probably paid to much but I was wrong on their asking price by a couple hundred dollars. I'm not a collector, I'm a shooter/hunter so I can over look a few things. All in all, its a pretty nice rifle. Hopefully it shoots good.
I took a picture but it makes the finish look green and its actually more bronze looking. Maybe I can get a better picture in the sunlight tomorrow. The more I look at it the better I like it. Its different than others. I like different.Pics please
Black Pad No. 1 Rifles are people too!If it's a red recoil pad No.1 rifle, yeah ceracoated reduces value by 50%. If it's a black recoil pad rifle that ceracoating may not hurt it much since it's not the collectible the red pad gun is. Also since it's a 243 it further makes it less desirable. IMHO.
Been looking all over for what the values are on the no1s. They seem all over the board and there’s not many for sale that I’ve found. I’m selling one right now, but having a heck of a time setting an accurate price on it. Aside from the typical “whatever someone wants to pay”, anyone have a ballpark figure on a stainless, laminate varminter in 204R? Great condition.
. If you can can find one of the very few people that want the laminate/SS No. 1s,

It ain't spray paint for sure. And I kinda like it the way it is.If you send it to Ruger they can probably strip the spray paint off of it and reblue it to make it look correct/better.

It is sprayed on. You can dress that up anyway you like after the fact, but the reality is that it is "spray paint".It ain't spray paint for sure. And I kinda like it the way it is.
Yes Sir I did. I changed my mind. Yes I do prefer them original but this one isn't. I also like rifles that aren't like everyone else's. I'm sorry I didn't get your approval before I spent my money. It is sprayed on. You can dress that up anyway you like after the fact, but the reality is that it is "spray paint".

You still bought it.

The 243 came at that time with a 10 twist. I suspect you will find it shoots 80 grain or less better. It will not shoot a 95 GR Nosler. Ask me how I know! The 87 V-Max may be your ticket though as you have discovered.I finally got to shoot the No.1. The previous owner must have liked something about it to "paint" the barreled action. I had 7 different loads today, 3 of each except for the 80 grain Sierra Blitz and they were for another 243 so I had a few extra of those. It shot the first three of the 80 Blitz in a nice 3/4 inch group at 100yds. Then I shot 87 grain V-Max, 3 different loads with N560. They shot decent but nothing like the Blitz, 2 groups in the one inch range and one about an inch and a half but two were together and a flyer really messed up the group. Then came 80 grain Nosler and H414. Three different loads with it and it didn't like them at all. Lastly I shot 3 more of the Blitz just to see if it would repeat itself and it did so I'll load a few more of them and see how it goes. So far even though its not a one holer its for sure good enough to hunt.
