Savauser The abomination

Just because I had a few laying around from Magnum conversions so I figured what the heck. The olde Mauser bolt lugs were set back (damaged) hince the project.
Thanks for the information. I'd forgotten about the location of the 3rd lug. It's been a while since I looked at a Mauser. Too long evidently. Now I get it.

I promise I will update this when I get back on it, right now I am building a Savage Axis 300wsm then I have another 26 Nosler to finish up, then I will I will get back on it. Speaking of that does anyone happen to have a spare trigger assembly for an older flatback Savage 110? A friend gave me a old 110 Magnum action but no trigger parts, having issues finding parts at all the usual places...

Let me do some digging

Well....I have the trigger itself, an adjustable. No housing, sear or springs though. Not sure where those got off to. Welcome to what I have.

Just some info, when I did my Mauser Project, I contemplated if there was any way I could have contact between both forward locking lugs and the “safety lug” At the same time.

I placed masking tape to the face of the safety lug until I made contact.
there was at least .008 clearance, so there was not any hope of getting all three to contact their abutments when in battery.

It was just a thought. I left it alone.

IIRC i think the safety lug is not supposed to touch, theres supposed to be a gap/setback space.

According to Frank DeHaas, the Mauser shotgun conversions used the safety lug as the only locking lug. The seats for the forward lugs were mostly removed in opening the receiver up for a 12 gauge shell.
I have seen one Mauser which was set back so badly that the safety lug did contact.
This was on a 375 H&H built in Ferlach. Too much material had been removed from the lower locking abutment. In addition, the owner was a guy who saw no reason to let any powder capacity go to waste, so he didn't. WH

Correct.

With all of the truing work I did on the action, I thought if there was anyway to get all three to touch, it would be a good thing.

But it is basically not feasible unless you tig welded the safety lug‘s face up and then carefully hand fitted it.

I decided that would be the ultimate in coming up with a fix to a non existent problem:)

A 375 H&H? One locking lug? Please tell me I mis-read that.

It was about the Mauser Geha shotgun, Which resembles the 98 on the outside, But the inner workings have been highly modified to run as a 12 ga or 16 ga shotgun. The bolt head is very large and has no lugs. Only the rear safety lug is used to lock the breech.

If you know much about the AK-47 and you have them apart and look at the inner workings, Then you take apart a Saiga 12 and look at the inner workings, You can see how much had to be altered to work as a shotgun, It's really pretty amazing that they work as well as they do.

I was digging through my trove of crap the other day and found a Siamese Mauser Action and bolt, heck I do not remember where I got it, had to have been years ago. Anyway, that thing looks like it would be a perfect .410 shotgun action with that bolt face, might be a future project.

I am doing a Siamese in 30-348 AI

Are those actions strong? Never really messed with one.
Yes, They were made in Japan by the same company/companies as the Arisaka. They are a very good action. The thread tenon is 14 TPI instead of 12, And is smaller diameter than a standard large ring. They have a 3rd lug etc. The biggest difference is the mag box, Feed rails and the Extractor and the extractor location on the bolt and the bolt face.

The Action body is also much wider.
