Thank You for posting this! This is great! Do you have any suggestions for wood/woods for a beginner attempting a IBS light gun stock build? Looking at the holes in the mating surfaces between the upper and lower halves of the buttstock, are you doweling them?

Just a big roughing cutter on a shaper. Looks like he has a guide on the bottom to follow a pattern.

Yes 4 dowel holes, l use polonia and balsa woods for LV.

I'll second that. Some of the popular stock makers in the short range game are pretty tight lipped.

Ya know, it might just be more rewarding to come up with your own design.
Their's no rules about the method in which the boards are put together.!!!
I didn't intend for you guys to try to duplicate my stock exactly, that's not necessary. If the joinery isn't perfect pulling the trigger might be a bad mistake.

Roy I'm just as glad for this post as others. I had no idea how you made them. You are making a hand crafted one of a kind. I make copies of the outside. Even my own stocks are copies of my pattern. It takes a lot of hours to make a pattern, strait, square and parallel. Basically you make a pattern Everytime. Very nice work Roy.

Roy, how did you go about developing the core material and shape? Did it come from a need to loose weight on the stock? What was the purpose behind the double triangular shape? Thanks

Carbon DOES NOT keep boards straight, the core was to have equal and opposing forces to direct any movement and vibration dampening, in theory my stocks can only hump their backs like a cat, or sway back horse not affecting tracking like a twist would. If a stock twists it throws the rudder out of alignment.
The bigger the triangle the stronger, thus a tapered triangle. Duh..lol

That is one fast duplicator, I read the whole thing in 5 minutes.

I dont see a problem with a duplicator to make stocks of your own design or of designs you have permission to copy. Its when you do not have permission, thats stealing and very unethical in my book. And no, changing one thing doesnt make it yours LOL. Even my wood stock that I use for a lot of my lr BR builds comes off a cnc router. Its just a fancier duplicator.
