Sako 6.5mm 140gr bullets

My friend has a Tikka T3x 6.5 Creedmoor that loves Sako Super Hammerhead 140gr factory ammunition. I've tried loading for that gun using some other similar very high quality bullets but nothing compares. Would like to reload for this gun using those bullets. Doing a little research, it appears that the bullet is a Sako design.

Anyone know where to buy Sako bullets for reloading?

Thanks,

David

I have not found any Sako bullets for sale as components recently. Here is the cutaway design of the Super Hammerhead:

I have no idea what bullets you've tested or what process you test with. But...

This bullet appears to be similar to:

Nosler Partition Protected point

Swift A-frame

Woodleigh Protected Point

There are a couple of others for you to test. Do not try to mimic the Sako cartridge exactly, use the procedures to develop an accurate load.

I think those are the bullets. My plan was to work up a fresh load using those bullets and H4350 and Peterson or Lapua brass.

We’ve already tried a few other bullets including Accubond 125 and 140s and so far those Hammerheads outshoot them all. I can keep testing controlled expansion bullets but I’d rather pay a premium for the Sako bullets.

At one point Bass pro shops sold Sako ammo and my friends loved it. Could they be a source?

The 1 I would try is the Speer Impact. It is a bonded bullet that is a first cousin to the Federal Terminal Assent.
The second would be the Speer Gold Dot. It is also a bonded bullet and is the same as the Federal Fusion.

Both are 140's. The Impact is available now, direct from Speer. The Gold Dot may be harder to find

I did in fact try looking for support on sako.global. There is no way to contact them using that website except to place a phone call to Finland. Not sure it's reasonable to call Finland when I can only speak English.

I considered calling Beretta USA but seriously, Beretta.

Dave, I just bumped into this thread tonight. I've been out shooting the Tikka T3x 6.5 CM with the Sako 140gr bullets the last couple of days. It's till shooting the Sako ammo great, pretty consistently 0.5-0.75 MOA at 100 and 200 yds. I attached a little 3-shot, 200 yd, 0.4 MOA group from today. I also included pictures of the bullet without the case. They are pretty sleek, aerodynamic looking (box says G1 = 0.437) for a "soft point." The lead meplat is very minimalist. My only criticism is that they are about 200-240 fps slower than the speed on the box, i.e. 2715 on the box vs. 2475-2515 on the Garmin, 24" barrel, and pretty underwhelming consistency, SD 25+ and ES ~100. Overall, a very effective deer cartidge for shorter ranges I hunt at here in PA. I think the low, inconsistent speeds could start to become a problem if I had too shoot farther.
