Applied Ballistics Question

Just got a new phone. I have been plugging in all my old data into Applied Ballistics app everything works perfectly except when I do a solution or drop chart. The values on my old phone were rounded to the closest click value for example on my 6XC set up for 1/4 MOA increments 500 yards called for 8.00 MOA. New phone calls for 7.95 MOA. I cant dial 7.95 minutes so why show it that way? Is there a setting someplace that I am missing? I have looked everywhere and can't seem to figure it out. Thanks in advance for the help.

Open up your AB app, and you should be viewing the screen where you've built your different rifle profiles.

Press and hold on the rifle profile you'd like to editScreenshot_20230813_134435_Applied Ballistics.jpg

Tap edit.

Then scroll down and tap on elevation unit

Then select the desired increment

Don't forget to tap the pencil in the upper right to save your new selection to this rifle profile before exiting.

You'll need to repeat this with every rifle profile built.

This is for the Android OS. Apple IOS will look slightly different, but the flow and sequence is very similar.

We used to do this but we had a lot of complaints from people because their Kestrel, Sig, etc... showed to two decimal places. So we changed it. It will likely stay at two decimal places for the future.

I have that all set up for 1/4 but its still not displaying my solutions properly.

It may not be "properly" for you as compared to your previous phone, however the decimal display is more precise. I prefer it as it provides which way I should favor from the closest click I can adjust to. I prefer to see the most precise and then round to the nearest click or hold hash mark. I was delighted when they made this change. Hopefully you will adjust and embrace the change when you get used to it. But I understand you being aggravated by unexpected change.

I can round off numbers fine, just doesn't make sense to me to show something you can't actually dial to. If I wanted more precise solutions I would use a scope with more precise adjustments. I would like to have the option at least in preferences to pick which way you want to display your solutions.

I think that is reasonable request you should forward to AB. They already have the code written and tested, they only need to write the code for the option in preferences.

I wonder if there isn’t something else setup to keep it from giving you 1/4 MOA readouts.

I just checked mine, I’m set to 1/4 graduations and all my solutions come out only in .25 increments.

Doc has already replied to this thread. Sounds like the decision has been made to leave it the way it is currently.

Some features and options to software are often driven by consumers. Some producers will develop with a closed mind, others will listen to their customer base. The decimal was inserted by customer demand, so it appears to me AB is listening to it's base. So if others like you make the suggestion, just maybe in a future upgrade they will include it. If know one speaks up, they have no incentive to include an option.
