Bad Day For My Scope

I mean no disrespect to the original poster or anyone else for that matter, but I cannot fathom with people continue to buy Leupolds.
l am NOT a competition shooter. l'm a prairie dog shooter. l only own USED Leupolds. They're the only ones l can afford. l don't about their customer service. l have never had one to fail.
l DO KNOW what l see hanging around Jarrett Rifles 40+yrs. Up until a couple yrs ago, all they use to sight in and work up loads are LEUPOLDS. Most guns shot use 80 gr+ powder

One, no shame at all in using the best you can afford, whatever that may be. It’s as likely as not that yours have seen repairs before being sold and generally once on comes back it works better than the first time. I needed one for a lightweight gun in 2016 and sent it to them fresh out of the box for a once over. That one was still working when I sold it, but it’s the only one I have ever had that didn’t go in for an actual repair. That’s why I don’t buy them.

As for Jarrett, I just scrolled through the last 341 posts they’ve made (since 2017) and there’s only two Leupolds that I can find, one’s on a 6.5 Creed in 2022 and the other was older- so it seems they’ve caught on as well.

I also have a Leupold 45x45 that is currently back for the 3rd time............................
I have two other Leupold 45x45 scopes which are fine.
Hopefully the 3rd time is the charm

Clancy. You are seeing pictures of customers' finished guns. A gun is built ''unpainted''. Gun is then sent to the TUNER for that perfect load. Leupolds are used in the TUNING process. After the tuning process the gun gets painted/engraved. Then customer's scope preference is mounted and sighted in. The CUSTOMER CHOOSES the scope for his Jarrett Rifle

I too have been in the same boat. I had an old vx3 and installed target turrets on it at Leupold custom shop. I believe it went back 2 times. My advice is to get it back from Leupold and sell it and tell the back story to the customer. I still have 3 other Leupold’s but don’t believe they hold POI like other scopes, for competitive shooting. They are a great scope just not for competitive shooting. I used that Leupold in my beginning of FTR and it couldn’t handle the yardage changes. I now use Nightforce and Vortex on both of my F Class rifles. I have an old Nightforce NXS 12x42 and a Vortex 15-60x52. Afew other scopes I would recommend are the Nightforce BR or competition, Vortex competition, Trijicon 5-50. Every scope will fail at some point just Leupold does it more often. Nightforce sends the scope back saying that we could find anything wrong but I’m sure it’s fixed. With Vortex I’m not sure what they say because I haven’t sent back my scope yet. I still use Leupold for my hunting rifles and very happy with them. One is a vx3 3-18x50, vx3 4.5-14x40 lr and the last one is a vx2 6-18x40. PM me if you want to ask me about any other scopes.
Best of luck with your scope,
Jason

Ok bud…. If you wanna be the odd man out, be my guest. I know what works and in this case, what doesn’t.

I don’t like seeing discussion like this. Every manufacturer will have problems with their product once in awhile. It is a simple fact that things fail. When you post something about brand X, because of a bad experience or experiences, what is lost is the number of those particular scopes that are out there. In other words if a company made one scope and it had no problems, you may think it’s a great scope because it was never mentioned in a thread like this. On the other hand if a company made 10,000 of one model of scope and 2 or 3 people spoke up on a thread like this, they are given a bad name.

Try to put things in proper context before badmouthing the very companies that have pushed the limits of optics to where they are today. Rifles are more accurate than ever. Part of that equation is optics.

Take up your problem with the manufacturer. This isn’t the place to praise brand X or curse brand Y. If you decide to switch scope companies, good for you but badmouthing a manufacturer on a public forum really doesn’t help in any manner.

Dave.

Mr. Way please go back and read all my post and you will see nowhere in any that I bad mouthed or condemned Leupold. I just stated what I experienced and I did call them, no offer to send return label or to replace. Just send it in and we will check it. In the box are the other 3 repair slips that I received on the other repairs (all for the same problem), I guess I'm guilty of Einstein's theory.
I'm sure others here appreciate these types of threads so when looking at different brands they get a different perspective of the quality and or lack of it on products they are interested in.
As for the life time warranty, it is way better if never needed, that would speak volumes to their QC. The older scopes being Made in U.S.A. were much better than the assembled in U.S.A. ones.
This post is my opinion, and I won't change it or argue over it.
Have a nice day.

I defend my statements. Without the context of how many of a particular scope are out there, your complaints are meaningless and likely misleading. Take March scopes for an example. They are hand assembled in very limited quantities. The ones I have owned had hand written serial numbers on the box and they were in the 100 range. You won’t hear of many problems with them. Is that because they are great quality or because there are only a few out there?

You say you didn’t badmouth Leupold. Your own words don’t reflect that.

“Maybe it is time for a change in brands. Oh by the way it is a 45 competition.”

“I have 4 LCS scopes of differing powers and this isn't the first one to go KAPUT.”

“I have a couple of original Simmons scopes on hunting rifles and when I take them out to check they never move, always right where they were set. My Leupold's not so much.”

“Unfortunately there is not a scope at any price point that is without problems.” If this is the case, why post the thread to begin with?

Dave.
