So my wife insists on having a garage sale. Again. Same crap that hasn't sold in the last 3 garage sales. But this time I've got a plan.

She'll be out of town overnight on a business trip. I'm loading all that crap up in a trailer and taking it to Goodwill. And when she gets home I'm handing her cash and telling her I found a charity that bought it.

Done.

It'll be well worth it to have that crap gone.

She might just end up sending you to goodwill next.

A couple day garage sale every year is a small price to pay for a happy wife. I'd pay that three fold. I should know, I'm going through a divorce right now.

If she wants to get upset with me over making a charitable donation and giving her the money she'd have made on the sale then I must have made a whole bunch of mistakes before she never said anything about. I'm confident that's not the case.

Hey I like the idea. But....it could be worthwhile to do a little research on Goodwill Industries. A local TV station did a piece on them a few years back, and I remembered being astounded at the salaries of a couple of executives here in NC. My wife and I now use a local church affiliated charity where the overhead costs are low,

I like your style. Good thinking sir!

We have dumpsters in my county with little buildings that you can drop off things of possible value. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I hate sellings things. I always feel better giving it away. I gave my neighbor a brand new window air conditioner, still in the box. Cost a couple of hundred bucks. I ran central air to my garage and didn't need it. The look on his face was priceless. Good work @DShortt. If the wife doesn't kill you it will be a success.

That's a good point. I've got a bit of time so I'll check around. Thanks for the suggestion.

My hat's off to you. Your wife leaving to go on a business trip at the same time that you're having a garage sale is not a coincidence. You have been given permission, maybe discreetly, to do as you see fit.
After my loving wife passed, I was left with "what do I do with all this stuff?" I tried the churches and the centers for the rehab of addicts and they don't want clothes, want stuff to sell at the flea markets. I was downsizing at the same time and took everything to Good Will. I'm not going to waste my time pre-qualifying them. They can do as they see fit. Along those same lines, I only donate to this site and DAV. 90% of the money donated goes to help vets.
Just my opinion, proceed with caution.

My wife was gone visiting family and friends for a week. There was 4 bins of nice clothing sitting in the living room for 2 months that she said she was going to do something with....On the first day she was gone I loaded them in my truck and donated them to my sister's Church. My wife got home about 4 hours ago, she hasn't asked about them yet. They went to a good cause. This past winter my wife had an all day yard sale. She netted about $150.00. Good for her, but I don't think it's worth it, but it's something she likes to do. There's still plenty more stuff she can sell her at the house that hasn't been touched in years.
