Barnard in Business?

Having recently ( last year) purchased a Barnard S action, I was looking for some spare parts. Things like an extra firing pin, FP Spring, and extractor + spring. It seems as if they have gone out of business. No replies to emails or phone calls n US importer has not had any product for a year.
I like the actions but if they are not supported with parts, the actions loose their desirability.
Anyone have information on the manufacturer?

I think that Barnard has gone out of business. Whidden told me that they have not been able to contact them for about a year or so. No replacement parts available. I am hoping that Whidden or someone else starts producing replacement parts. Most seem to be simple machine work and there is an obvious market for them.

This is a timely thread… I just started a 375 Cheytac build on a Barnard P-Chey action I’ve had for years, I was a little disheartened when I started looking for a action wrench and trigger guard last weekend that I didn’t purchase back then only to find distributors with no stock.

I reached out to Warner-tool and Dan was unable to help me with parts but had some recommendations. Before I proceeded with those I also reached out to a company called Dolphin Gun Company in the UK. Mik and Tina are fantastic! They had what I needed and responded to emails day and night. I was surprised that shipping was only $31 dollars for the items to get it to the states. My order ships out Monday.

OK - here's the good oil.
Barnard has had problems. Steve, the owner has had health issues, just before the Covid lockdowns. Auckland was badly hit and was locked down for longer than the rest of the country. His son has been looking after things since, but there were business issues and the doors have been shut for a few months. The dealers licence was suspended, for whatever reason, but has been reinstated.

However, I can disclose that an offer has been made for the business, Some orders have been shipped, from parts on hand. The potential buyer is someone I know reasonably well and this information is directly from him.

Barnard will be manufacturing again in the very near future.

NZ fclass I hope this works out there's a few people hanging out for parts and actions again . Can you keep us in the loop for further developments

I was in a similar situation last year. I have a PL in 338Imp. Bought the action from John. I was looking for an extractor, called Whidden, Warner and about a dozen other dealers. I got ahold of a Smith in NZ who personally knows the owners at Barnard. I can confirm the story that NZ_Fclass shared. I also kept Whidden in the loop as I was getting info. I was able to get enough spare parts to keep my Action running for a couple lifetimes. I was contacted by Steve's son who helped facilitate my order. The shipping was a bit stiff, but it calmed my nerves getting a bunch of spares, extractors, pins, springs, and a trigger. Exporting can be a hassle but the authorities I talked to were very accommodating and helpful. I suggest contacting Dealers over there, I'm betting they have what you need. The Barnard actions over there are like Remington 700s over here.
I really like my Barnard, and hope they get things sorted out.

Left the UK on Monday, on my door step this evening. Definitely worth reaching out to Mik @ Dolphin Gun Company if your needing parts for Barnard.

They are announcing a new dealer in France......in 2019. I'm not sure what's going on there. I recently saw a post of the Barnard building with weeds growing around the door. I'd wait until I hear from somebody in NZ.

Seeing as you seem to be connected to those in the know, are there any updates as to where Barnard is at, presumably under a new owner and team?

Its already May 2024 and their website seems to be in a holding pattern, the most recent news item being dated in 2019...

I very much hope they're on the come-back!

As far as I know, Barnard is finished. There was a prospective buyer, but a deal could not be reached with the owners of the intellectual property and a complex debt situation.

I know of another company here making a single shot action which will be on the market shortly. The first few hundred actions are already in production. The prototype looks great and will have some improvements on the Barnard. I have my order in already.

All I know for certain - Barnard P profile, uses Remington 700 triggers, interchangeable bolt head (308 and PRC). Smoother bolt lift and close. May have dual ports or options

I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements after spending some time talking to him at the national matches this year. Using 700 triggers will make it much more appealing to more shooters IMO.
Cheers

Thanks for the update, even if its a shame to hear about.

Of the other company, can you share their details?
