Pennsylvania Shooting Clubs

Palmyra has a very active sb and air rifle program. You see palmyra shooters at the USA shooting events frequently. The club has even hosted ncaa attended matches in the past. Don’t know about the other disciplines.

That sounds great - I will put contacting them on my list. Don't want to crash a Jr's program though!

Retirement income is not taxable at either the local or state level in PA. Property based taxes vary widely based on location. Rural rates are typically low.
there are all kinds of taxes besides the ones mentioned, I think the Fetterman thing would be enough.

I shoot at New Holland a few times a year. It is the closest 600yd range to me.
I am a member at York Izaak Walton. They have matches of some sort every weekend and is very laid back.
Hopewell Fish & Game is another South PA range that I frequent.
I live in MD about 15 miles from PA and I really don't care for ranges here in MD. But if I wasn't so close to PA I would probably still belong to the Associated Gun Clubs. It does have a lot to offer

Can we keep this thread to shooting clubs in PA? I am more than capable of determining my personal tax exposure and political leanings. I hate how everything devolves to this stuff.

If there is nothing more to say about recommended clubs we can just let this thread die. I got a few good leads based on suggestions. Thanks.

I`m sure you can have the tax questions answered by a little research. PA has a lot of clubs. Most I was able to get too were mentioned. My favorites are Mifflin Co.,Reade. and Ridgeway. Jeff

Mifflin Co is excellent! I have not shot there since the range upgrades that were done a few years ago but i'm sure it's even better now. St. Thomas Sportsmen is nice, all be it a much smaller facility with limited distance, then you have Shippensburg Sportsmen and also Hopewell and to our friends south of the boarder, there's a quiet little range with great people known as Mayberry Sportsmens in Maryland. Central PA will give you many, many options to shoot!

Do tell! I live in PA and need to know if the tax man is looking for me!
Oh he's looking for you and will get you even when you're dead!

"Retirement income is not taxable at either the local or state level in PA."

Not exactly. I get two retirement checks every month from my former employer. One for the qualified part of my pension and the other for the non-qualified part. When I moved there in 2000 both were tax exempt. About ten years ago that changed and the non-qualified retirement income became state taxable.

And then there's the death tax. As a Pennsylvania resident my estate would have been taxed at 10% if I left everything to my children. Non-lineal descendants are taxed at an even higher rate. If I had died there the state would have grabbed 25% of the money I left to the Salvation Army. Even after I moved to a different state, as a PA non-resident, the house I still owned there would have been subject to the same death tax.

I was born there, grew up there and still love the state but the taxes made me move...

I can tell you that if you are looking for a few more disciplines to spend money on, Tamaqua Rifle and Pistol Club isn't terribly far out of your "box". I know they shoot ARA 22 matches and Cast Bullet Association matches on a monthly basis.

Just my $0.02 worth. I shot there when I still lived in the Scranton Area. I'm now in East Tennessee, and the snow is non-existent. ;)

I want to thank everyone that provided range/club recommendations. I've gotten a few contacts and now have a list of places to look into/visit. Quite a number of places look excellent!
