H-414 Powder Discontinued?

Did Hodgdon discontinue H-414 ? I looked on their website and didn't see it listed at all (whether in stock or not)

H414 is one of my favorite powders in my 22-250s and the Swift it also shot very well in the 300saum and has taken its share of elk. Will have to search something new when my stash runs out.

Many years ago I tried WW760 in my 17Remington and then also got H-414 too,not really sure why I kept accumulating more and more of the H-414.I am set for awhile, I just figured with my luck by the time I need WW760 it will be gone too. I just need to try and keep a good attitude about component availability and use what I have and enjoy it.

Could be WW will end up scrapping some of the temp sensitive powders to push the StaBall powders now that they have the 3 kinds out, depends on demand I expect, and perhaps what they need to make for military apps, they may come up with more StaBall versions to fill out the lineup.

I used to use a lot of H414, mostly in .22-250 and .220 Swift with great accuracy results. It's reported to be quite temperature sensitive, but I never had a problem in that regard.

On my last build(243AI) I wanted to use H-414. However, I only had about 1/2 lb.; of course, there was none to be found. On a suggestion by a fellow member, I tried WIN 760...I never looked back!

There's about a 1.2 gr. difference in charge weights between the lots of 414 (414 being a bit slower) and 760 that I have, If I remember they're about 3 years apart (414 is older late 80's) and the 760 is early 91 or 92. I have other powders in this burn rate so I'm not totally out of luck. I was just thinking ahead.

Once it reaches near - 5 (f) [-20 c ], ALL powders I've tested drop like a stone. Be they the most temp stable to the least temp stable.
And none of this testing in the cooler bullcrap. It's the whole system ( firearm and ammo ) that gets affected.

I've never had that problem. I don't let my shop or gun room get that cold! As for hunting, I didn't lose anything outside that I need to look for when it's that cold. Lol!

It looks as though Staball 6.5 will be a more than suitable replacement. I just bought a lb to have a play in the 6.5mm Super Long range, as H4350 is unobtainium in NZ. I also splashed out on Staball match and HD for similar reasons. In the words of Stephen Stills - "Love the one you're with". He may have also said, "Why do we need Neil Young in the band? ", but that's not really relevant.

Hodgdon lost me after discontinuing the enduron line. IMR-4166 shot amazing in several of my rifles. After the time and expense I went to to test it and work up loads only to have it cancelled, well I left Hodgdon. Been selling off my supply in favor of another brand and will never go back to Hodgdon

I have some 4007 somewhere, if you are that desperate ...and I agree that 4166 was useful, even if it spiked pressure and needed more neck tension to get decent SD's. I still have enough for next season to feed the 6BR, but will be testing Winchesters Staball powders, also distributed by Hodgdon, as supplies seem to be better down here.

WW760 is the same powder. Just a guess on my part but that is why H414 went away. It was a duplication. JMHO. WD

That's the reason. As this was a 'badge engineering' job, Hodgdon simply did a marketing tidy-up once it took Winchester powder distribution / testing / packaging etc over. Any difference between the two grades was simply that of different manufacturing lots - which in this powder's case don't appear to be as consistent as some. The two grades had identical loads published in Hodgdon's 'Annual Manuals' for many years.

Hodgdon issued a safety warning for 4007 some years ago and withdrew the grade. ALL manufacturing lots are designated unstable and dangerous whether in the can, or loaded in cartridges.

I realise that - I just lifted 2lbs from a deceased friends stash, It is now fertilising the lemon tree. I also purchased some of his rifles, including a little used BSA Majestic in .270 Win - and a BSA Hunter in .222 with the extended magazine.
