22 GT with 50-75 gr Bullets?

I built one for a coyote rifle. Shooting 75 eldm at 3440fps. Mine is .120 freebore. If I have another barrel chambered for lighter bullets it will have less freebore.

That's 22-250 Ackley territory, pretty sporty out of a GT case, how long's the barrel?

2 of my very good friends have them, and my gunsmith shoots one as well.
They’re working with 8208 in the shorter barrel and Varget in the longer ones .
Hodgdon has a mountain of data on this now.
I’d also reference 22-250 data as it’s very close.

Built one this past winter set up for 55 grain blitz kings. I haven’t chronographed it but it’s pretty zippy and shoots small groups, constantly putting 5 shots in the 2s. I had BDL metal and had a few isolated feeding issues, switched to a Wyatt’s center feed mag and eliminated that. If you’re interested in the reamer print let me know, the reamer is at Old Dominion Custom rifles, it’s a JGS reamer. I’m sure Zack had something to do with the accuracy, every rifle he’s built has shot! I’m using N135, Aplha brass, CCI 450s and 55 grain Blitzkings.

The first seating die I used was a Frankford universal seating die, worked great, handy die to have because there isn’t much you can’t seat with it. When I decided I was gonna stick with the GT case I bought a set of 6GT RCBS Matchmaster FL dies, I use a .250 bushing for the 22GT which gives a couple thou neck tension. I’ve also seated the 22GT ammo with the 6GT Matchmaster seater, worked fine. Then I ended up buying some short action custom dies for the GT family. That’s what I’m currently using, I like their bushing design and I like their seater, expensive but very nice dies. A guy could stick with any of those dies and have success. The Alpha brass is nice, pleasure to work with and it has the 22GT headstamp which I like because there’s a 6GT in the safe too, helps me keep them straight.

I need to shoot a couple rifles and get them zeroed for a shooting session with friends tomorrow. Should be ease enough to chrono, Im not running it stiff, I’m guessing I’m running one node down but I’m curious myself. It was to get a load to shoot .5, 5 shots, I haven’t had one but this rifle and my 6GT seem to have some inherent accuracy.nakneker that is sure a sweet looking setup. I am curious about the speed with the 55bk, when you find time to check it I think at least two of us would love to know.

My barrel is 22” and I have room to add more pop but I’m happy where it’s at. Just got done, 5 shots, 3617 FPS average, I’m pretty sure I could push this load and get closer to 3700 but I won’t, it’s shooting really well. It ‘s very close to a 22-250, I had it built to accommodate lighter bullets, 50-55 should be ideal. I currently have a 22x47Lapua being built, it’s set up for 80 grain Bergers.nakneker that is sure a sweet looking setup. I am curious about the speed with the 55bk, when you find time to check it I think at least two of us would love to know.
I think it’s a neat cartridge, looks good, shoots good, a very usable varmint round.
Friend is gunsmith and he’s built 3 of them; him, I and another friend. All 27” Lilja with 8 twists. We ve done lots of load work ups and tuning. Shooting 88 Eldm 3050-3100 fps seems sweet spot. Have ran up to 3150-3175 fps but it’s getting too warm and accuracy not as good there. .135 freebore with PTG reamer. .250 neck.
We ve not played with 75 s but I d say comparing to 88 that 3200-3250 fps would’ve comparable pressure wish. As someone else mentioned 3400 fps with 75 has to be high pressure. That’s what my 22-250 AI runs!! After building and working with those 3 we ve got, the 22GT is basically a short, steeper shoulder 22-250. Our results anyway.

Hi, slightly off topic but bare/bear with me if you don't mind.
What velocity would you expect to get with the same weight bullet but in a 20 GT? Would it inherently be less (or more) because of the smaller diameter?

I don’t know the answer to that question, I would guess they would be close but that’s just a guess. I’m sure there’s guys that can give you a better answer though. Hopefully they chime in.
Generally when you decrease bore diameter your velocity will drop some for equal weight bullets.
