What twist for that round?243 pushing a 100 Sierra Gameking.
I'd look at 243 win, 6mm rem, 6.5 x 55 Swede, 260 rem, 6mm arc, Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, Creedmoor, 7mm -08.Hello. Thanks to all in advance. I’ve owned different caliber's and types of shooting and hunting platforms. Looking for opinions on store available and low recoil round for deer type game. I have my favorite rounds for plinking and defense ect. Just looking for that enjoyable to shoot round that is easily available For hunting type application. Thanks again.
Most Factory rifles are 1-9, Remington actually list them at around 1- 9 1/8What twist for that round?
My go to is 55 gr Sierra Game King in the .223. Or in a 243, 708 or 308 one of the single shot pistol bullets and 22.0 gr of 4198. I push a p sized plug of fish tank filter material down on top of the powder. Shoots 1 in at 100, works well to 200, little or no recoil. Kills deer just great.223 with a 60 grain or heavier, put it in the lungs and walk over to your deer. Deer are not hard to kill.
Buy the Tikka.I handled a bergara 243 ridge today at the lgs. Certainly seemed nice enough. They had a tikka also. Barrel is more substantial on the bergara. I’m a tikka fan. Bergara felt nice though. Seemed to feel more solid I guess. Anyone know how the bergara‘s shoot? Again thanks for all the opinions and advice.
Love the 30-30, but I thought you might go a little more old school and say 300 savage.30-30 or 6.5 Grendel
Yeah, an old Savage 99 would be a good choice for a short range hunter.Love the 30-30, but I thought you might go a little more old school and say 300 savage.
I had a tikka t3 in 260 rem. It thumped a little much to be shooting it for fun. A t3 in 243 once in a while at deer wouldn’t be too badI handled a bergara 243 ridge today at the lgs. 20 or 22 inch?Buy the Tikka.
Will the blast out of the 20 be noticeable over the 22? I have a tikka 223 varmint that shoots real well. I just plink with it. The older I get the more I just enjoy shooting something that is not obnoxious. I also have a ctr stock bottom metal and magazine I can put it in if need be. One of my friends has a Grendel for his grandson. He has had good luck from it. That sure is a nice looking set up you have.I’d go with the 20”. It will be slightly easier to handle and the velocity difference is negligible. A heavier Varmint barrel will help mitigate the recoil but you’ll have to carry that weight. There are always trade offs.
I love my Tikkas. I think I own 8 or nine of them. I keep losing them to friends looking for a good gun and I go out and find another one to replace it. They are smooth as soft butter to operate and accurate guns. Best factory trigger on the market.
I suggested the 6.5 Grendel because I started shooting one last year. I bought a Howa mini barreled action and made a stock for it. For a fairly cheap set up, it shoots well. I’m getting 1” or less groups from it at 100 with my handloads and the recoil is moderate. I read guy’s reports on how well the little cartridge worked on hogs and deer, so I had to try it. The finished gun is pretty lite, too.
