What is your powder $ spending breaking point?

I am always on high alert for powder, primes and bullets. I am the guy everyone loves to hate because I buy it when the price is right or I find the hard to find items. Just bought 3lbs of vihtavouri at Scheels on sale for 30 bucks a pound. I didnt need it or even use it for anything "yet" but when everyone else is out I am still rolling.

I assume in the next 5 years I will have enough supplies to last me until I die and still have ample in reserve. Every election cycle or dreamed up crisis brings another wave of price increases and supply shortages. Buy what you can when you can and don't regret it because the next time it's probably going to be worse.

I stopped 3 years ago, but have a pretty good supply, Most of mine was bought at $30 per lb. There was a small chance that powder was going to eventually come back down . But with the lunacy of life under Biden everything has gone up.. I don't see powder ever going below 45 to 50 a pound. If this were any other product the justice dept would be busting up ATK.

I am with jimmymac. I have fly rods that can keep me occupied. Actually before the last election I did my typically pre election splurge knowing from past history prices would escalate. When I was about done I was offered several deals on powder and bullets that I declined, for about one day. At my wife's urging I jumped on all of them. I figure I am good for 4 years minimum. Then I will be 80 and my airguns will be plenty of trigger time. No, nothing is for sale.

It's a rare time when I pay the hazmat fees, for primers and powder, I have to be experimenting with new loads for a new rifle. and want something really bad. If I can find powder or primers within a hours drive, the online retailer can keep their components, I will pay the locals a little more to save shipping, handling, and haz mat.

Have a great day.!

When I started reloading in the 90s, primers were $10/k. The last time I bought them, about 3 years ago, they were $40/k delivered. I bought enough to last me for about 5 years so I am hoping prices come down to those levels.

That said, $50/k primers, and under $30/lb powder delivered is where I would like to see things, but the reality is that the cost of components won't stop me from shooting.

I'm with you, Fly Fishing. Seams the companies and businesses we depend on for components are taking advantage of us. Most shooters I know have drastically reduced their trigger time and refocused on other activities. I have gone from thousands of rounds a year to maybe 500, most of that at our clubs monthly IDPA clinic.
