222 Remington Groundhog!

I used to have 2-.222 Remingtons and they were my favorite rifles for groundhogs. The only thing was when the wind was blowing hard you better be a good wind reader. I can still remember some crows hit with the .222. Red mist and feathers. Used Remington 7 1/2 primers , IMR 4198, 50 grain Nosler solid base HP and 50 grain BT’s. Very fun and deadly combination. Sure is a nice looking rifle Rifle you have there too.

A pigeon on a barn roof hit by a 50 grain Blitz from a 222 at forty feet leaves a red feather blotch of meat with feet stuck to the metal roof and angel wings floating like somebody blew up a king sized feather pillow. Ask me how I know!

It is also a fun groundhog round. I don't find it to be terrible in the wind, but starting at 275 yards, you better be right on your range estimate!

Coincidently, I noted that on a 6-18 Leupold set at 12x with a plex reticle, in a significant wind on PD's, that heavy plex point becomes a great aim point for windage, and it holds true right out to about 300 yards.

Long live the Duece!
