6BR- temp., mirage, wind

So, I was shooting my match today. It was one of those odd local matches where 10-ring at 300m= 2cm.
A few thoughts/aftermath would like to share with you.
1. Sensitivity of 6BR/N140 combination to temperature change.
I zeroed my rifle 4 days ago in calm weather and 18degrees celsius outside. Today we had 24 degrees at the range. That transferred to 4 clicks difference in elevation at 300m. That would be not bad if there was no mirage.
2. 6BR in mirage
Today,I could not see my shots at 300m on white surface at all. Of course I could not see them on black as well.
I could see however shots of my neighbour shooting .308.
So, I was shooting based on my 300m zero established4 days ago, no corrections made any sense since I could not see a thing.
3. Wind
We had 20km/h crosswind. No flags.

Conclusions. .284 won the whole thing.

I am still fighting with the idea of saying sayonara to 6BR where you shoot for score at 100m+ distances in moderate wind conditions. 6BR seems to be performing great in calm weather.

A well tuned 6BR should be able to shoot inside of a 284 at 300yds. What scope are you using and are you allowed to use a spotting scope? Recommend to always use wind flags.

At 300 I‘m voting stay with 6br. Not that I have vote

No wind flags are allowed. No rests. Just bipods. I use march HM, I did use a spotting scope and guess what it did not help with a mirage like we had today. It was not kowa or svarowski though.
As for staying with 6BR. The thing is that average shooter with .284 or even 6.5 creedmoor can outshoot a good 6BR shooter on a windy day. Bart Sauter in one of his videos showed the horizontal difference between. 6br and 6bra on a windy day. So imagine the difference between 6br and .284 on the said windy day.
I hate recoil and that's part of the answer why I am shooting 6BR. I think in a situation like this one should choose the highest bc bullet one can handle in terms of recoil and go for it.

I placed in the first 20 in f-open at nationals earlier this month shooting 6 BR. There were exclusively .284s and 6.5s above me. except for one dasher. yes I could beat .284 at 600m with 6BR if I were a better shooter.

Maybe making wind flags your friend would help make things better, by the way on your march HM if its a variable power what setting were you on.

Dialing magnification back on either the rifle or spotter *may* allow you to reduce mirage enough to see the [visually smaller] holes. it reduces the effect of the mirage on the overall image.

Wouldn't that be tied to velocity? Shooting the same bullet, I'd assume, so it has to be the amount of time it's hanging in the wind?

2. Mirage. I have seen many times in mirage where I couldn't see my shots but could see the shooters next to me. I think it's because you're not getting the reflection back off his target as you are getting from yours because of looking straight on your target.
