The 22bra Thread

what velocities are you guys getting with 75gr or 80gr out the 22bra?

ive got a 6bra barrel off urbanrifleman, shoots great. another barrel in 22bra is tempting!

I ran the 90 grain Berger all the way up to almost 3,000 fire forming which absolutely blew me away.

Now mine is a 90 Berger which is significantly slower than the 80 but the node I'm using is right at 2830 for fire forming. That is a very low load of AR comp 26.5 grains. I'm doing my seating depth test tomorrow at that charge.

I'm still fire forming my 300 cases.

What powders have you tried in the 22bra so far?

Here is the load workup with the 80 grain Sierra MatchKing. The powder is reloader 16 and the primer is the CCI 450. This is fire formed Lapua brass. The bullet was seated 20 thou into the lands. I do not think that is a good seating depth for this bullet. I definitely think it's going to shoot way smaller with a different seating depth and I'll do the seating depth test next. There are several good nodes but I want to do the seating depth test next and then revisit this entire test once again.20230603_161638.jpg20230603_161008.jpg

Not criticizing at all... what made you choose 0.5gr steps? I would have probably done .4 or .3 ... so I'm second guessing what I would have done if it were me.

Rough test first. Needed to start low and go all the way up. I have no frame of reference on this cartridge.

Next will pick a node and focus on an area in smaller steps.

I might have to step into the 22x47L. i was wanting to play around with 75 or 80s @ ~3300fps

I thought I would start a thread on the 22 bra since I have several different variations of this cartridge in the works for testing.

I have two reamers now they are both no turn neck. I have a 150 freebore and a 50 freebore. I have the 150 free bore build all put together on a Kauger arms CRS. The barrel is one of my seven twist Wilson barrels.

My current 600y gun is a 22 Dasher. Not a BRA but almost. I just shot a 40 shot match F-Open last weekend with a 398-19x. 3015'/s and 4.xx stdev. Varget and 90vld Berger coated with WS2. This is through a 11 year old HPalma bbl I shot prone with back then. Haven't located just what it is but probably a Krieger 7.7 twist.

What was your seating depth relative to the lands? And charge if you don't mind.

1st of all, this is an AWESOME post topic....wish every cartridge had one. Question, I hear that the 22 bra doesn't need a false neck to fireform. Just recieved my dies, Wilson FL bush die ( bush .248) and have necked down 5 cases just to see how it all works....I sized slowly, watching the progress of the sizing on the neck. Stopped when there was maybe 1/64" united, or distance of neck/shoulder jct. "Should" this method work?...I don't have the barrel yet, know I should wait, and will on any further case forming. Was just curious as to if the shoulder/neck junction length dimension changes between the 22br brass and the Ackley version....Thanks for any help, rsbhunter
