MDT Oryx chassis

Looking really hard at getting one for my Mossberg Patriot. Wanted to know what eveyone though about it for the money

Honestly wanted this one due to the carbine stock but realized by the time I get the chassis and the stock I could just build a decent AR 15 with about the same level of adjustment

Or would I be better off. With a Boyds varmint stock and a cheap kydex cheek riser. Honestly it's just gonna be for hunting and range shooting. Just really want something nicer then the crappy plastic stock it's in now

I've never owned one but a buddy has 3-4 and really like them.
No complaints.
Think you'd be happier with it then a Boyds.

I had one for a 700. Nothing wrong with it - but I just didn't like it. I made a bag rider - just could not get on with it. It just didn't fit me. Maybe the XRS could be a better fit - I like chassis guns too. I have MDT HM2 and an LSS.

I have 2 of them and I like them well enough and also shoot them well. I put arca rails on both because almost everything I have is set up with an arca rail. The rid bending part is not a deal breaker for me. You can always buy a longer rid and never ride up over the butt.

I had one for a Savage SA but replaced it with an XRS. My only complaint was I didn't like the idea of having to 'bend' my cleaning rod because the butt pad assembly was taller than the bore centerline.
Thank you for mentioning that. It's now out of contention for me due to the cleaning rod issue. That seems like something pretty big.

I was at Brownells and had them pull a Oryx, a KRG Bravo and Whiskey and a GRS Fenris for me. In the price range of $325 both the KRG and Fenris and the Oryx at $430 and then the KRG Whiskey at $479 I really thought the Bravo was about the best one for the money. I really liked the whiskey as well but didn't feel it really did much more for me and then not really worth the extra money. If you want something more for hunting I really like the GRS Fenris, grip as well as easy butt and cheek riser adjustment. All about 3lbs except the Oryx which I want to say is over 4lbs, too heavy for hunting in my eyes.

By the time you put a Boyd's together you are crowding in on the price of these. Don't forget to always ask for Military or LEO discount if you are eligible.

I was unable to find a 20 cal cleaning rod long enough to do so with a 26" bbl.

Why not just take the action out of the stock when you clean? That's what I do on all of the precision rigs and return to zero has never been an issue.

One of the Aussie guys on another forum was just going to cut a small groove in the offending part.
It's only aluminium, so would be easy to do.
Clean up nicely with a file so it looks right, and it won't affect the chassis at all.
The old BSA Martini rifles had a groove in their walnut butt stock to allow a cleaning rod access, so it has all been done before.
I just use a Lowey rod guide and a .20 rod...no problems at all.

How did the bedding block in the fenris look? I can find a pic of it on the interwebs.

Dimner,

it was decent but not like a chassis.

The Fenris is more of a no frills stock which is ok with me as it would get painted anyway. It still has the same comb and length of pull hardware, QT sling mounts and I really liked the grip and the way they textured it. I do have big hands and I remember someone saying they didnt like the GRS stocks because they had small hands.

Really appreciate you taking those pics. Looks pretty good. Is that one a tikka inlet? And the only aluminum parts is the recoil lug? I was hoping it had an aluminum bedding like the boyds stocks.

I believe I was just looking at 700SA stocks that day. I have a 722 I will be dropping in one, keep swaying towards the Fenris. They are very stiff, I believe I mentioned it will get painted and beat around then. I say that but I always take good care of my guns.
