I fished the skagit and Sauk a lot years ago, another sad outcome.
My beloved stillaguamish is another sad story.

The Sauk used to produce some big Native Steelhead, I fished alot around the mouth of the Skagit in Rockport and floated a drift boat down the Sauk

I quit fishing in BC when I found the Clearwater
It’s my favorite summer steelhead river and has fantastic access for fly fishing.

Dang! I appreciate the camera at some distance, rather than fish at arm's length close to the lens, making the fish bigger than the fisherman.

You’d be surprised how good some kings can look and quality of meat many miles upstream, my favorite king river is 100+ miles upstream on the Columbia and even on tribs in Idaho.

I’m sure there’s a few but most look pretty rough upstream, the meat gets soft and beat up , the oils go away, not really that close to the quality of a king taken right out of the salt water.

Depends on the timing and race, fall kings on the snohomish or in the Great Lakes are beyond dog food in a flash
Spingers, URB’s and some summer races are excellent to good quite a ways up.

Most definitely depends on the race of the fish.
Pinks( humpys) or chum ( dog salmon) go quick when they hit fresh water.
Steelhead and Silvers seem to last longer
