6mm BRX Powder Recomendation

I'm building a 6mm BRX, 30" barrel and will shoot steel target matches. I have had dashers and BR's and both have been shot using varget.

Question is is there another powder out there that is "better/more temp stable" than varget. Maybe a touch more free velocity?

I'll be using 105's, 108's and 109 bergers.

Thanks

Possibly R16, I’m running it in my 6BRA, it was very stable in my 260, don’t have enough data to see how it’s doing in my 6mm.
I’m limited in case capacity but it should be even better for speed in your bigger case.

Reloader 16 is great in the BRX. It will get you a little more speed and is very forgiving. I don’t even bother with other powders anymore in the BRX. It is bulky and you’ll need a drop tube. Start around 33gr with 109 and work up. I shoot a 2970 node with 109’s. Reloader 15.5 should work great too I just haven’t tried it.

Barrel length for that speed?
I can just barely get 33.5 in my BRA with a long drop tube with no crunchy crunch on the powder.

31”. The BRX has the shoulder blown .100” higher and has a good bit more capacity than the BRA. With 107’s I shot 35.7 that gets crunchy but works. A BRA won’t get anywhere close to that. I have BRX, Dasher and BRA barrels..

I feel pretty decent as I’m 100 fps slower with 4” less barrel and no inkling of pressure at all.

I don’t think you can get enough RL16 in a BRA to over pressure it. I shot 3030fps with 107’s and RL16 in a 27” Krieger BRX. It was a hammer and the brass life was great. That’s why I stayed with the BRX for F Class over the BRA at 1K. RL16 and the BRX are a perfect match.

After about 20 barrels and many thousands of rounds.......Varget. stay 2970 to 2990. Faster hurts accuracy . 33.4 Varget with sorted 107 SMK has been the load 90 percent of the time. Current barrel is 33.1. Mostly from touch to .015 in the lands.

You’ll find it to be very forgiving. It shoots everything. What twist?

And as Jeff mentioned, Varget always works great. With the availability of powder get what you can!

Would require some testing but VV-N140 is very close to the burn rate of Varget according to the charts.

I got my hands on some Rl 15.5 it will out shoot Varget loads by group size at 500 yds with 108g Elds in my 6Brx. The ES and SD of the 15.5 is as good or slightly better than Varget. It took about 1 grain more 15.5 to get to the velocity node (2975) for my gun. Case was getting pretty full and I was using a long drop tube. No pressure signs at all. Should have bought more than 2# while I had the chance.

RL 15.5 will get you some surprising velocity. If you can find some, that is.

It is very temp stable and produces very good precision. This powder will give you a choice of several nodes. I shot this powder with minimal workup at the TSRA midrange last year and it held the waterline like nobody's business. All but one of the points dropped were at three or nine o'clock. Good stuff.

twist is 1-7.5 I think.
I have used all 8 twist with the 107s. With 110s 8, 7.5, &7.0, I could never get repeatability with the 110s. So 107s and 8 twist. Mostly Bartlines and Krigers. 1 Shilen, shot well but was done before 1500 rounds. 1 Douglas but it only shot in a lower node and was not quite as accurate in the lower node plus giving up veclocity.
