What happens to shot out barrels ?

I've read claims that a rebored barrel will even shoot better because of the heating and cooling it endured. "Stress relieving", if you will. Sounds like it'd be very hard to prove, but I guess someone figures a claim like that will sell the service

Does anyone else besides me have a shot out barrel collection? I thought I was in a group that would just collect them and sit them in the corner taking up room.

I used one to make a light weight 6-250 for hunting. It worked out well and shot great. Then my son laid claims to it. Guess I need to do another one for my other son and one for me.

Now I've grown quite a few tomatoes, and I just don't think a rifle barrel would make a very good tomato stake. Just about any old limb off a tree would have them beat all to hell. A lot of you guys must have some pretty poor excuses for tomato plants. ;) jd

If you dont plant the old barrels, where do you think freedom seeds come from?

No, just great barrels that have been retired. besides, they scare the vermin away.

If you have a shop, with a mill and lathe, no end to uses for old barrels. I make elongated washers for pull bolt two piece stocks and escutions for fore-end mounting mounting screws. JES Barrels does reboring, depending on the muzzle diameter he can do a fine job on cut rifled barrels for cast bullets from what I understand.
For a tomato stake, better off with a 2x2 stake 4-5' above ground around here, the plants grow big and get heavy with tomatoes. But they make a great survey corner marker.

Everyone always says tomatoes stakes. It makes me think there would be more grandma's tomato sauce recipes on these forums
