Right direction loading 223 ?

23.2 and 24.0 of H4895 … one of those will work for most .223 loads if you want 0.5 moa accuracy. Try seating the 69’s with some jump too. I run them 2.240” in a gas gun Wylde chamber with good results out to 500.

Try more jump on those wonderful 69 SMk’s
I have them with .020 jump right now. 1.925 cbto with my comparator. Say i can make this combo work what do you guys see that says try more jump. I appreciate the help.

My experience with that wonderful bullet has shown it really likes a good jump most of the time.
More so than most.
I usually start at 20 thou on most bullets as that seems to always work but with the 69smk have shown to prefer more.

And to add just a little more....

Don't be fooled by small sample groups. To get the effect of all your shots, consider the mean radius of all the shots in that group, but also the ones next to it. This mentality means if you use 3 shots per step, you are in effect using 9, or if you are using 5 shots per step, you are evaluating 15, etc.. For pre loaded ammo, you cannot ignore the steps above and below the one you are considering, both for group but also for where the group centers are shifting.

There are a few endeavors where you can find a very narrow charge node that groups tight, but with a mess to either side where the groups scatter or shift. These are not for pre loaded ammo styles of shooting where the climate changes and takes you right out of tune. If those narrow nodes repeat, the only way to exploit them is with real time loading.

It is risky to judge on light data, but do not ignore where the group centroid is printing either. If you try to imagine a croup center, note how that shifts compared to the point of aim. One of the priority goals is to stay away from speeds/charges that change their point of impact rapidly.

If you are lured into selecting a tight group based on a small sample and it is at the place where the centroid is shifting, it will produce lots of vertical scatter at distance and fall in and out of tune to your frustration.

By selecting a charge where the centroid has stable position for at least a step to each side, you can tolerate climate changes and you can also still try to tighten it with seating depth and re-test to see if you trim the charge since significant depth changes will also change the speed.

I run workups with 3 shots. I use one target. It goes 6 across and I repeat the 6 loads three times.

Then I do that three times.

Thats 48 rounds per practice seesion. Then I do that for three trips.

By then I MIGHT start seeing the actual pattern.

I use these load workups for PRACTICE. By the time I get done I have loads that are solid and I have very high confidence in them. I give them to my customers and they work.

I continued up to 24.6gr of h4895. I reshot 24.0 and had a flyer that struck high into the target above it but I felt good on the shot. 24.2 wasn’t so hateful but 24.4 and 24.6 was. I need to anneal my brass and size it before I go on up. Unless 23.2 repeats I’d say I’m all but done with h4895. Temp was the same as the day before 77 degrees but with zero wind and zero mirage View attachment 1440364
Looking for similar vertical displacement from center, 23.4-23.8 “might” be a low node. Certainly isn’t @happy” re group sizes which could be seating depth, etc. 24.0 is a nice dot, with vertical instability either side, so useless.

I'd put 'em in the lands first......
Try THIS ^^^ ( a Lite "Jam" ) as most Sierra's,.. LIKE it,.. THERE !
Powder charge should be, just Under, "Max load"
I always do 4 shot Group's ,. just INCASE,.. I, "pull One", a bit.
Go out to, 200 or 300 yards to see IF the Load, still, group's,.. "Well" and,.. Repeats !
I had NO good Luck, "Jumping" this Bullet, in my very accurate ( Sub MOA with, 60 gr NBT's and 65 grain, Game Kings ) in My AR with, Jumping them at, Magazine length !

I have had excellent results with H4895 in my 223 Rem, bolt rifles, 8" twist, with 60 Vmax's. This powder also performs very well with 50 and 55 Nosler BT's in my 12" twist 223 Rem bolt rifles.

However, I really can't discern the difference between optimized loads of Varget versus H4895, they both perform very well with the aforementioned bullets and twist rates.

Thanks. I have the 60s also I might try them. The most Ima ever get to shoot it is around 600 they will prob be fine inside that

25.5 Varget, 69 MK to Sierra’s suggested length.
I quit doing jams in anything I have multiple rifles in, 223/5.56 being a major one. Nothing like a range trip or varmint hunt only to find wrong ammo.

Very wise decision. I never found it necessary to achieve outstandingly accurate varmint hunting loads by jamming bullets into the lands or even touching them.

Some may be surprised that some rifles actually shoot better with the bullet seated well off the lands. Sierra published an article about this several years ago.
