So just playing around doing a little l load development for this AR i built. Nothing serious was just trying to see what I could make on a budget and see how well I could make it shoot. Bear Creek barrel , discount handguard , old 6x SWFA Monstrum ring you get the jist lol. Don't expect it to shoot lower then 3/4" if that honestly but it's been fun to plink with.FB_IMG_1683761187763.jpg
Anyhow this was the best group from today's load development ( first hand loads for it actually) and was just curious if anyone who was good at reading groups could possibly tell me if anything weird is going on here . Not saying there is or isn't just kinda curious :)

I am like coyote. Need load data. Looks to me like a 7 twist shoot 52s, maybe over spun? more power on the scope will likely reduce groups size, and unless you've already done it a light trigger will help. A lot of folks on here know more about AR 15 loads than me. Give the AR guys load data and twist and they can tell you if it has potential.

Hope you guys don't mind me just taking pictures of my data book :oops:
Also my Chrono wasn't working to begin with so I shot my next three loads then it started working. Saw 24.2 grain shot the best so loaded more to get velocity data on that one.
Also sorry for the crappy hand writing most of it was written on my knee lol , really need to clean off my bench

I would load that bullet to 2.250 coal. May have to use a different front rest for load work, unless you plan on only shooting off the bipod. For me AR's seem to shoot best with the front support in the middle of the hand guard. My 17R upper guard is like yours, I put another sling swivel back several inches for a bipod. There's always the chance that's the best the rifle(component combination) is capable of.

You need some 223 bullets!:eek::eek::eek:…..not 224;).
Shots 1 and three look good. I think 2,4 and 5 clipped the wire.

Seriously: Looking pretty good. That’s where I’d stop for a “cheap” AR.

It tells me not to shoot 68gr Hornady bthp.
Seriously what do the rest of targets look like over the course of charge weights?

For what you are using, thats a pretty good group.
AR's are just like any other rifle, the better you want it to shoot
the more money you have to put into it and the load. Rabbit hole....
If this is just a plinker, call it a day and have fun with it.

Worse lol :D will say though that cent dot on that 6x SWFA dosent really help :oops:
Stack your aiming point on top of the dot I find this helps a bit as your cross hair can center on the diamond in the center of target this way your gaining additional advantage in your aiming.

If its not showing pressure signs try some more powder, but watch closely. My 748 load that was given to me with my rifle was over book max but never has seen any pressure signs and some older books had a higher max. They were with 69 smk but that bullet is close.

It tells me you have a roughly 1 MOA load, which isn't bad or uncommon for that type of rifle.
