QUITE WEARING OUT THE BBL ON THE 44. buy some lapua brass and try and find some 312/310 match bullets around 150.I am always in awe of the ability of the guys on this forum! I have 2 91/30 Mosins with shot out barrels I wish I could rebarrel as well as you guys! Fortunately, I have an M44 with a pristine barrel that shoots the 100s of surplus Russky ammo fantastically. Some day when funds permit I will rebarrel one of the 91/30s with a .308 barrel to make a tribute sniper rifle. Thanks for all the great pictures!
Love it. Did you use Manson's print/reamer? Richard's stock?Getting ready for this years Long Range Match. 6.5x54R Built on a Remington Mosin Nagant. Broughton 5C HV barrel. Got a Silver Medal Last Year with it.
Did you read the metallurgical testing and write up that I had performed for @tobnprThat is very cool, Please post more pics when it's done! Is that "Platinum Gray" ?
The reamer was from PTG back when they gave a rat's a@@
The stock is a Richard's Microfit, I don't know why some on here don't like them, I find them to be excellent, They are a lot of work, Which I'm sure you know that. I did the Cerakote in "Cobalt Kinetics Slate Gray"
I true the bolt heads and bush them and turn down the firing pin to match. This is something that has to be done on the 6.5 calibers for sure or they will blow the primers. Here is a pic of the reamer print.
Edit to add: I just realized you also used the new Lo-Profile Rock Solid mount. I wish they had them in canted bases. I am going to put a Spuhr mount on mine so I can get the extra elevation.
Yes I did, I believe I made 2 or 3 comments on that thread. Very interesting results, Not what I had expected.Did you read the metallurgical testing and write up that I had performed for @tobnpr
Some have a two piece interrupter , the piece that allows the cartridge ti rise up and feed . The only thing I had to do ( 7.62 x 54 ackley 40* ) was to play with the timing on the interrupter . If I remember correctly, I also had to slightly increase the front mag well .I would like to build a custom on a Mosin action, probably on a chassis.
I think the Peterson brass necked down to 7mm and Ackley Improved would be a great chambering.
Would you foresee any feeding problems from the magazine with the straighter wall case and 40 degree shoulder?
Yes, I have also been wanting to do the 7mm version, If you Ackley or 40 degree it, The mag box will have to be altered as there is a rib at the parent cases's shoulder junction. I had quite a bit of work involved in getting my 30-40 Krag Ackley improved to feed in another Mosin I built. But after lots of work I finally got it. Any cartridge with the shoulder longer than the 7.62x54R will have to have mag and or action mods.I would like to build a custom on a Mosin action, probably on a chassis.

I "cheat" with the low-pro mounts when I need a down-angle base. I epoxy-bed every mount anyway- so I just set the rear screw a bit high. 20 moa = .035 over 6", I use calipers to measure from the receiver flat to top of rail and lightly begin screwing the rail down (excess epoxy at the front squeezes out) until I've got the down angle I want. I have not had an issue with screws binding because of the slight angle, and this way I can provide any desired down angle within reason from a level scope mount.I just realized you also used the new Lo-Profile Rock Solid mount. Don't know why the pics look like that (?). It's actually Burnt Bronze. I like the look of that with light wood, this is my personal hunting rifle in Burnt Bronze, on an old Fajen stock I scored about 20 years ago.Is that "Platinum Gray" ?

Jackie,
Blasting the Cerakote off the action tonight and shipping to your FFL tomorrow. It's a 1940 Tula with the inner receiver ring. If you're interested in a 7mm- this guy did one years ago- 7mm Altius- PTG has the reamer- print is on the video as well so it can be sent to Manson or JGS.
This action is going to be destroyed, but happy to send you another one for a build anytime, just ask.
