6mm ARC - Practical Reloading

I'm still developing with the Barnes 112. Some encouraging results with CFE223, but nothing conclusive. Also did OK with 2520. On hold for now due to winter. I'm using a 26" bolt gun.

Received a new upper last week, 26 in Bartlein from Craddock, need to mount scope, change trigger in the lower. Right now 5 weeks out from rotator cuff, and torn bicep surgery. Also waiting on warmer weather.
14 degrees tomorrow morning, wind chills below zero. Good news is new starline brass here tomorrow to resize.

Any velocity to report with CFE 223.

Keep us posted.

Yes.
27.5 gr.=2573 fps
27.8=2615
28.1=2661
28.3=2673
28.6=2712
28.9=2719
For my 26" bolt gun I have 28.5 as max (~2700fps), because I was getting some swipes and sticky lifts above that. With 28.5 I had the following 3 shot groups: .49, .03(!), .4, .48 (with the Magneto attached). I need more replication now. I was using CCI400 with the bullet seated -.013 off the lands.

With 112 grain Barnes?

Thank you.

Sorry hit reply to soon. What is max yardage you have shot.
My load development has been at 100 yards. Our range goes to 800 yards. I'm confident after running the ballistics for 105 to 112 grain bullets I can succeed that far assuming I read the wind for the day. Just messing, around I've banged gongs (~2 minute targets) out to 600. 600 - 800 yard group shooting is what I hope to do when the weather turns nice.

I also just got some streamline Patriot Valley 95 grains that should take me to 1000. I haven't even begun to develop loads with those bullets. And I'm not near any 1000 yard ranges either, so that whole pipe dream is on the back burner.

I'm kind of new to this longer range shooting and still stumbling my way though it. I will say the efficient, low recoiling, accurate 6 ARC has been a huge game changer for me. It been a fun journey so far.

Thank you.

Sounds like you are off to a good start
Want to make a few changes to my lower, & mount optics, hopefully be ready when decent weather gets here.

Would be interested on thoughts on the high energy propellants. Specifically would like thoughts on Accurate 2520, CfE 223, Levrevolution & Power-pro 2000. To be a bit more clear, Application for these propellants to be considered are 100 grain projectiles & up.

the first loads i used were cfe223, I got a great velocity 2700 fps, great groups, 1/2 at 100 yards, was drillin targets out to 1,000

PROBLEM with it is that it is not a temp stable powder so that velocity comes at the price of consistency.

Map out your temp/speed curve and use a ballistic solver to accommodate it.

that works pretty well, I am still playing around with the loads,

probably more than i should haha.

I am liking my varget load i am getting 2610 out of it, and hitting easily at 1000 with it, and it is very temp stable.

How about H-380 the old 22-250 powder?? Anyone tried it with anything?? I have a pound of it and was just curious. Couldn't really find any data on it but it should be in the right burn range.....

I too am wondering about H380 as I have 2-3 pds. It’s right next to zLever evolution on burn rate charts. Not sure if it ll work well at 60k psi but probably worth a try on heavy 6 ARC loads.

Will follow this post for any definitive responses on H380!
Thx
