Well, last Saturday I shot my first match. Though pressed for time due to work obligations, I stayed up til 2 a.m. Saturday morning loading ammo so that I could shoot the 520 yard match at Brock’s Gap. I had only shot past 100 yards one time so I still have load development to do. I decided to test seating depths that looked good at 100, so I loaded for the first relay .004 into the lands, the second relay .016 into the lands and the third and fourth relays .019 into the lands.
First, a big thanks to @shoot4fun for taking me under his arm, encouraging me to join Brock’s Gap and then helping me to figure out which way is up. Also a big thanks to @DJSBRS and all of the other guys for making me feel totally comfortable.
Now, for the report. I screwed the pooch on my first target. WOW!!! I shot the guys next to me target. I ran the group decently fast and was sure that I had did pretty good. Looked up and said to myself “Ruh Roh Raggy, re rot a roblem.”You shot the wrong target
Well, there goes light gun. Mirage was bad and I had fissile down to 30x. There was no chance of seeing bullet holes.
I immediately looked over to the other bench and confessed my error. Everyone was consoling, quite jovial and totally forgiving. That made me feel better. I somehow kicked myself through the next relay. I figured at worst, the practice would be good for me. You could not tell from the groups. At least I had a clue about how much to adjust my scope.

I was determined to redeem myself in heavy gun. At least I was going to make sure I only shot my target. I did. My first two targets were respectable-2.104 and 1.439 with a double. When I first looked at the target, I was wondering if I only shot 4 rounds.
The third target was 2.721. I don’t know what happened. My guess is I shot a bad condition. The third target, redemption- 1.564.
My heavy gun agg. was 1.957. Again, what I felt was respectable, although not as good as it should have been. I was holding dead center and needed one click up or to hold at the top of the ten ring. Had I made that adjustment, I would have only dropped one point.

I ended up winning heavy gun group agg. after a dismal start. I learned a good bit and know what I need to work on. Just got to find the time to shoot. Really feels good to get the first match under my belt.
I shot my Wheeler 6bra using Bart’s 103gr Hammers and a mixed lot of H4895.
Thanks again to all the guys and gals at the match. I had a blast.
