Shooting an ara target

Doesn’t really matter. Some rest such as PQP joystick easier to shoot going across where they rest with knobs may be easier to shoot going up and down.

One very good shooter advised me he shot vertically as each time you moved your rest horizontally you changed the side pressure slightly on the stock. By going vertical you only had 4 different pressures as opposed to 25 going horizontal. I’m not good enough to see a difference.

So do you 'snake' them back and forth or go back to the beginning of a row column?
I go l>r, l>r, etc just because it's the easiest way for me to make sure I don't leave out a bull.

Using a sliding bipod or one piece rest negates that.

I hang mine sideways, start on the bottom row and work my way up. Often times I’ll shoot a sighter then work my way to the middle of a row, stop and go to the opposite side sighter and work my way back in. Very rarely do I shoot a whole row without shooting another sighter unless wind is very mild or calm and they’re all hitting center. When watching through a spotting scope as the other relay is shooting I’ve seen a dozen different methods from good shooters. Do what works for you.

I know people that start at the bottom and shoot vertically up the first row then starts the 2nd row at the bottom again. They claim its to avoid backlash issue with the rest.

There is no right or wrong way. Try different ways and figure out what works for you. You see targets shot all kinds of ways. At the end of the day, you are shooting to a dot and in most cases, you need to fine tune on each shot for wind, general POA, etc. I would recommend focusing on being consistent in how you handle your micro adjustments meaning for example, always move towards your final aim point from the high side first and then from the right (or whatever order/direction you prefer).

I keep mine vertical and shoot 1- 5 move down and shoot 10 - 6, then down and across again with 11-15 etc. Sort of a zig zag

At the matches I shoot most people hang the target sideways. I find it easier to move horizontally to get to a sighter at either end of the row.

I start shooting for score on the top left and shoot the top row left to right. Then I drop down and shoot the next row right to left

Unlimited, One piece rest .
I always keep the spring "being loaded"
that's L to R every row.

With a joy stick rest it doesn't matter to me.

When shooting an ara target what is best way to shoot target, up and down or across? Thanks for imput.
I place the target sideways with the large sighters to the left. I used to always shoot left to right but now I let the conditions tell me the best way.

if the conditions are very switchy and there are only small windows to shoot I will drop down to the bull below and go right to left when I reach the far-right bull. this condition will almost always not allow me to move back to left and start from the left. those wasted seconds to reset how you would like will cost you points.

I have learned to shoot when you can and wait when you can't.
