My 686 story

Back to the story, so after a few days I wanted to make sure I was never again in the position of being outside and all my guns inside again so I sourced a h&r 12 gauge and proceeded to cut the barrel and stock off to the shortest legal length loaded it with 3 inch magnum with #2 steel shot plus 3 in a side saddle magazine and kept it hid in the detached garage, bought a safe.
The end.

Do you know what happened that it ended up coming back? And sed in a crime? Kid got caught with some other peice of stolen property?
Sorry for the late reply I didn't see your post earlier, I don't remember exactly what he was charged with but I don't believe it was real serious maybe even a driving violation, they stated the pistol was found under the seat.

When I was younger I hunted a lot, I loved being in the woods and have been fascinated with guns all my life, my go to deer rifle was a Winchester model 70 264 win mag and it was one of the rifles that was stolen, l had bought it brand new at a gun show in Nashville a few years earlier, I also picked up 2 boxes ammo from another vendor for the astronomical (what I thought at the time) price of 20.00 a box, those being the only factory ammo I ever purchased for it, that led me to take up reloading as that was the first set of dies I ever purchased.

Interesting, In the case of my brothers house being broken into law enforcement has issued an arrest warrant for two people from Ia, he is in Mn. The gun safe was obviously the target, but he or law enforcement never did come up with any connection to him, that is honestly the more creepy part of the house being broken into. The guys had multiple warrants out in multiple states , real couple winners

The other rifle that was stolen was a Ruger model 77 in 338 win mag, never really took a liking to it,
A friend of my brother had sent word that he had a ffl and he would get me the replacement's for cost, ended up getting the exact same 264 but I didn't replace the 338 I ordered a Winchester model 70 varmint in 223 instead, still have both of those, I was afraid the replacement 264 would disappoint me in the accuracy department so I didn't shoot it right away but finally with deer season creeping up I had to get it sighted in, seemed to shoot fairly well, I was beginning to take a liking to it, the first 2 deer shot with it looked like they had been poleaxed, ended up taking a lot of deer with it,
The little 223 has been to South Dakota about 4 times, been shot until it was so hot the barrel burned a blister on my leg as I was taking it off the bench to cool (probably should have done that a little sooner) barrel looks like a sewer pipe and it will still shoot a decent group.

My dream ending would have been along the lines of: Arrived at the jail house, the officers handed me my long lost pistol, they then opened the cell the perp was held in and instructed me to pistol whip the son-of-a-bitch until I was tired.

Perhaps sounds a bit harsh but these theives need to be removed from the gene pool IMNSHO.

That would be my dream ending also :D

OP - A friend of mine has a similar story (also with a happy conclusion):

I have a friend, Cary (in his 70's I think), who has an old Winchester 1890 pump action in 22 short.

Over the years, this story has come to light:

Cary's great-grandfather bought the rifle new for Cary's grandfather (don't know how old either was when the rifle was purchased.) GGF was on his second marriage, and his new wife had taken to feeding the stray cats in the neighborhood. Every now and then GGF would give granddad a box of ammo, whisper "do something about the damn cats", and take his wife shopping. Apparently she never figured out why the cats would disappear every now and then.

Fast forward a couple of generations, and Cary received his draft notice, and enlisted in the Air Force. Shortly before leaving for duty, his parents' house was broken into (as much as it could be when you didn't lock doors), and among the things stolen was the 1890.

4 (6?) years later, Cary gets out of the service. Months later, by chance, he was talking to a neighbor who lived a few blocks away, and mentioned about the break-in before he left, and the stolen rifle. The neighbor says their kid found a rifle dumped over the fence in their back yard years ago, and they turned it into the police. So Cary, on a whim, goes to the police station and explains the story. Gets transferred to the evidence locker, and explains it again. The guy goes in the back and comes out 20 minutes later.

"Do you have a serial number?" Of course not. "Can you describe the rifle?" Sure, Winchester 1890, about yeah long, pump action, has an L-shaped dent on the left side of the stock... Cop goes in the back and comes out with the rifle, and hands it over. No paperwork, just hands it to him. "It's just taking up space in here anyway."

Thing was all rusty, so Cary took it all apart and cleaned it up. Still shoots, as well as an 1890 ever did. It's now going to Cary's grandson (12 years old) putting it in the family for 6 generations.

As an aside, that rifle being fired is quieter than my match air pistol.

I wish someone would steal this POS Charter Arms "Professional" i bought back in October!!!

Calling them yet again on Monday.
Call #3.

Today it fired 2 of 24 rounds of 4 different factory ammo i tried.

After the 1st of the 2 rounds went off, i sighted again, and found the front sight had turned 90°.

That's a great ending to a sad story my friend! I've heard all too often tho of items in evidence ending up "missing" like that. Had a cousin that was robbed of his guns, one being a Browning Hi-Power 9mm. It was recovered a few years later at the end of a high speed chase of a local thief. Held in evidence ever since, supposedly. Glad you got it back tho for sure!

I'm absolutely not hating on charter arms, but I would rather have a older S&W than any of the newer revolvers, including S&W.
