1035 yard bear

I don't know why I get into these discussions...

For me, it's ethical if:
The round has sufficient energy remaining at terminal impact to humanely dispatch the game AND the shooter has a good firing solution and firing position to ensure a solid hit.

The evidence suggests both of my requirements were fulfilled.

Great shooting!

How many here could hit a 10" plate on a cold bore shot from a tripod at 1000 yards walking around in the field?
You would be surprised how many on this forum can from their favored position. Under reasonable conditions, I wouldn't have any problem with any of my match rifles and my well-developed handloads. The problem I have is lack of energy. I simply do not shoot big enough cartridges to accomplish the task of taking down game humanely.

Wrong about what?
NOT a very good idea to post long range
hunting kills.

they had a set up. not walking around.

certain range finders and conditions were included in their DOPE.

What would happen if at the next 1000 yard F-class match the rules were no sighters
allowed just shoot for score?

go grow a brain! so the ones that Can do ,Can ,just step aside pawn.

his equipment very obviously can do the job!

and i know exactly where he was at.

oh, and ,yeah ,DID THE JOB!

maybe you should take up weaving baskets. or join a sewing cirle.

you made the 2nd person now i put on IGNORE!
Its click baiting, by reacting to his posts you give him/her/they acknowledgment, just ignore, you are waiting preciously seconds on a completely worthless pursuit.

Does not matter, Now pay attention!
The OP apparently made a good kill and had a good setup with backup
GREAT!!!! No problem.

Other hunters will see that and try to do the same without the same skill set
and equipment and wound game. Period.

I would love that! Same people would win as always. Top competitors don't often hold center to "see where it goes." They show up with a properly fouled barrel, wind reading skill, and good data. The result of having things figured out and significant experience looks like magic to the uninitiated.

That doesn't mean we are trying to shoot that pinwheel X. Those don't serve the purposes of playing the game. You should see some of the head games we play during limited sighters.

Oops, shouldn't be giving away the secrets... ;)

I sometimes have missed the fast coyote that runs 15 yards in front of me when I least expect it. But it's improving my running shot skills!!

I have my own opinions (that no one cares about), and I'd like to share two thoughts...

1. Congratulations on a successful hunt...

2. Be thankful we're discussing this on a properly moderated forum. Over on Long Range Hunting it doesn't matter how good you are or how bad you suck; the word ethics is blurred out the same as profanity and could get you banned.

Now whether a 1000 yard shot is ethical or not well that is would definitely become
a heated discussion.

My personal take on this is that it is NOT a very good idea to post long range
hunting kills.
Obviously for this man, with his equipment and skills...it was an ethical shot.

It is ethical for some, and unobtainable for others. It's the others that do all the bitc!ing. I say CONGRATULATIONS to the bear hunter. All that hard work and training helped to make for a successful hunt!

50 years is a long time to hunt a bear…… LoL
Congratulations on the hunt.

Now, WTF folks!? If the OP has the equipment and skill to pull this off, more power to him! Just because you can’t, do not rain on his achievements. Dang, never saw such a childish bunch….get the equipment and the skills OR get over it..

My load is 300 grain Elite Hunter @ 3135 FPS, energy at 1035 yards 2903 ft lb more energy than a 30/06 180 grain bullet has @ 2750 FPS has at the muzzle; energy 2707 ft lb
