SSS Dog Tracker Stock Experience?

Hoot

Silver $$ Contributor
I am considering one of them for one of my Model 12 (6.5x47L) and to be honest, I'm off put by the offset it comes with. Is it as obnoxious in use as it looks to a conventional stock kinda guy like me? Has anyone ordered one without the offset? It checks all the other boxes for me other than that. Torque is not an issue for me with my Cliff Arnold one piece rest.

Thanks,

Hoot

Edit: If I could find one of those big Savage 12 BR stocks for a reasonable price, that would work for me also. I already have two of them and like the heft.

I just sold a Dog tracker, it shot just fine also it was very well made.
I’ve also purchased a stock from Kevin Rayhill , his wife Janet makes them in a reasonable time frame.

Have one and couldn’t be happier. Very well made and used for switch barrel largest cartridge was a 6.5x 284
The offset, well I like the looks, and really was never bothered or noticed torque but I really like the look.
Very well made stock perfectly inletted. It’s for a Savage so the distance between action screws, again different as Savage can’t keep the same distance for very long. But SSS got it perfect.
I recommend the stock but solely based on your age.

Thanks for the replies. The ony compelling reason for looking at a stock change is that the Choate Varmint stock that I currently have for this rig, is narrower than my Arnold one piece roller top rest, which is fixed at 3" forearm width. I like it for mostly removing the influence my bench manners have on the loads that I test. I shoot because I enjoy experimenting with loads, not competing. I have the materials and means to fabricate either a 3" HDPE or Delrin bag rider. That's the low hanging fruit. Certainly the cheaper alternative. Still mulling it over.

With that offset, do those of you with experience with one, find that you have to lay further over on the comb, to see through the scope? Did you feel that was an issue, or just a learning challenge?

I do wish Fred would do a Savage F-class stock style. Maybe add
about 3 more inches to the length and rail track it.

Add to that, make those washboard cuts on the bottom of the forearm and stock, optional. They make smooth bag riding more difficult. just a personal gripe...

I have one on a 6BR I built for F-Class. I love the stock, it fit and shoots well. Not sure I understand the question regarding laying further over the comb or otherwise doing something different from a more conventional stock. The offset helps with twist, and me being right-handed/right eye it doesn't change grip, head position or anything for me.

Thanks for the report. Perhaps I'm mistaken about which side the offset is on. I'm ambidextrous but my Dad was a Right/Right, so I learned Right/Right as well. If I recover from a shipping damage issue I just learned about, I may well try one of those stocks.

I was just looking Into a dog tracker. I don’t own any stocks currently like it. What exactly is the purpose of the 3in offset?

If your looking for offset get a pair of Harrels offset set rings.

I’ve had positive experience with these
