Remington clone action questions

I am just getting back interested in target shooting after about a 15 year break. My interest is in NRL22 and NRL hunter type shooting but not necessarily interested in competitions at this time. I currently have a b14r 22lr in an xlr chassis and plan to build a centerfire barreled action to fit the chasis. I already have savage rifles and barrels and am familiar with changing barrels with the barrel nut. My thought is to build on a rem clone action with the same tenon threads as savage. I believe this narrows down the choices to American Rifle Company, Zermatt and Shilen.

I haven’t seen much info on the shilen action.

The prices of the origin and the nucleus/ coupe degrace are pretty close in the grand scheme of things.

What are the major defining differences between the Origin/ Nucleus gen 2 and the Coupe De Grace and is there a big difference or a reason to choose one over the other? The nuc is in stock, the coupe has yet to be released and not sure on the lead time on origin.

Thanks for any input, John

Another criteria is a changeable bolt head in order to increase options in the future.

What are peoples experiences or opinions about the pros and cons of an integral recoil lug?

I recently reinstalled a barrel on a remington 700 action and it was a bit of trial and error to get the lug clocked to fit into the bedded stock. This would not be the case with an integral lug, but does having a pinned lug solve this issue adequately (the savages i worked on the the past had a notched lug) What are the other considerations?

Thanks

NSS (Northland Shooters Supply) sells an action wrench that clocks and locates *their* tapered lug (does not work with the square factory Remington lug.) AFAIK, the wrench fits both Savage and Rem700 actions. You will need to buy the wrench, the lug alignment jig, and the lug itself.

I have a 308 on a orgin so that’s the only one I can comment on. I have been really happy with it I liked the crf, prefit barrels and also the Winchester style quick take down bolt just a quarter turn then and it comes apart if need be. Also the mechanical ejector was a plus for me, I have allot of other rifles with plungers and such just like mechanical for simplicity. I purchased mine through altus shooting they seem to keep a good supply of brands. Also can check bugholes he stocks Orgins and other brands.

My orgin had a pinned lug so it lined itself up where it needed to be when I spun the barrel on and dropped in the stock nicely. I can definitely see if it wasn’t pinned how it be a pain but I believe you can get action wrenches with the cutout for the non pinned lug to set in when your installing barrel to keep it aligned.
