QuickLoad Question

The bullet /start pressure is a subject up for debate. A poster just a while back that has a Trace system posted that the jamming of bullets would never raise the pressure by 7200 psi. He said that start pressure with a jammed bullet would be more like 5000-5500 psi rather than 10825. I tend to believe this.

I have loaded ammo with QL a lot in the past 4-5 years. Last month I loaded for my 260 Rem target rifle, I shoot everything everytime beside a Labradar. Same load as always, however, velocity was up 100+ ft/s. Here was the problem, I set COL from another 260 Rem 'dummy' round which had a longer COL ,thus jamming the bullet.
I back engineered the velocity and low and behold the figures worked out for the jammed bullet.

That's good to know. So you feel that the 7200 psi figure is valid.

Yes I do, I take anything that QL describes /prescribes at face value.
Many users have trouble , I think, because they try to mix traditional methods & myths of finding a load with QL.

Just got back from the range (exercise of the day was bench technique and is H-4350 better than RL-22 for this application), the same 260 is on a node for the barrel length, where ever the 'dot' was when the trigger was released is where the bullet went.

I don't think my rifle can do any better.....but I sure need to improve.

BCBRAD,

I’m thinking you maybe right on regarding jamb & pressure.
So I made major rookie mistake and I did bring this up in another thread.
I did a load with a Nosler bullet and by mistake did the exact same load again, at different time, but with a Berger bullet.
When doing my seating depth, I thought I was .010 jump but in reality with the Berger I was actually jamming the riffling by .080. No issue at all with that load and it shoots lights out but I’m not comfortable with that being a hunting load and did make all corrections needed to get it back to a starting point with .010 jump.
This brings me back to beginning of this thread “reason for the pressure jump” roughly 6000psi
Now with it corrected, I just need a range to open and get a chrono reading to see were it’s at but what you stated I believe has answered my questions!!

Can you post the "input data" you used
For the
Case capacity
COAL
Exact bullet you used
Powder, charge
Magnum Primer used
Barrel length

I would like to run a GRTiools sim to find out how far it would be to your observed MVs.

Any way I can get a complete copy of this file?
I looked and it must have gotten deleted when I did a reinstall on my laptop. Surprised I didn't have a copy on the NAS, but so far I can't find it. Appears it is no longer available on the web. Sorry.

Just like everything else, but especially when ti comes to modelling, use everything with caution. Just because it is published, its not necessarilly right. But at least it is a starting point.
