Use indoor outdoor carpet. It works great

Get rid of the carpet! My mat has a flap on the front which I lay on top of a rubber mat!

The bipod cannot make permanent tracks or grooves in the mat/pad that will limit it to moving straight front to back. In other words, the bipod feet can't create tracks that will minimize or prevent lateral movement during the recoil impulse. [Rule 3.4.1 Rifle Rests]
