6BRA Alpha Brass question

Im saying, we are running the clearence and bump numbers you specd. Even another .001 of bump. Heavy bolt lift. The odd thing is normally at real pressure you see an ejector mark before heavy lift. Not with this. Just heavy lift. I feel bad because Im sure a lot of guys bought it because we had great luck with it early on. I dont know what changed, but something did for sure. @GlennK had some that was excellent. He cant run his new stuff.

What actual happened was they were using the thinner walled Lapua brass fire forming and and stretching the brass and maintaining the necessary neck shoulder clearance with the .268 version. When I was making 6 BRA brass for your .268 customers, I was cutting into the neck shoulder junction as well. With that 40º shoulder the necks do not grow but the neck shoulder junction loads up upon each firing eventually getting too thick and too little clearance after firing several times.

Alpha beefed their brass to hold the primer pockets tight and their wall thickness is even more thicker which stands out as an issue with too close of neck shoulder wall clearance. Therefore the neck shoulder wall should be annealed after every firing if they are running a no turn neck and full length neck sized for the 6 BRA.

Very few re-loaders are using a full length neck sizer (all the way to the shoulder to resize at that location) to provide adequate clearance. The brass is going to flow and load up and stop at the 40º shoulder neck junction. I think after it gets hard after a few firings, you could skim the necks but make a slight cut into the shoulder and be good to go going forward.

Again, just my .02¢ worth.

Glenn Kulzer broke 8 records with it. He was running Roys at 3030 fps. It was great. New brass in that same barrel with the same components will not get near that veocity without heavy bolt lift. He didnt treat them any different. Turned necks into the shoulder like normal.
Shot some at 3030fps today. 30.7 H4895 and had heavy bolt lift but no other signs of pressure. 30.3 gr was at 2960fps and there was no pressure.

It is a thing I agree , I have 300 fully prepped pieces that are not usable in any configuration I promise… I have many that shoot both alpha 6BRA and Alpha Dasher .. the Dasher version to my knowledge has not had the same issue as the 6BRA version.. I have tried everything mentioned to rectify the issue but nothing repeatable on the brass giving issues. Other runs I can run right loose at all dimensions with success… bummer all around hopefully there are solutions that work run to run in the future.. not only the cost of brass but time prepping to discover the issue is the biggest time sucker…

Who makes a non bushing sizer for the 6 bra?
I use a Whidden and am happy with it. Below is a link to their standard die. They also make custom sizes

I have 200 pieces of Alpha BRA brass that shot great as virgin brass. When resized it immediately had heavy lift and swiping even at low powder charges. I tried bumping the shoulders from .002-.006 with no improvement. Thought maybe the die wasn't sizing the brass small enough in one of the dimensions but everything I can measure with a caliper is smaller than my Lapua brass which is great.
