What load is getting you 3000 fps?Dont think I ever took mine out that far. It very accurate out to 100 and has killed its share of ground hogs. I use the Hornady 35 gr NTX @ 3000 fps. I neck size only with Lee collet die. Mine is a Ruger 77/22. YMMV
H-110 powder shoots great in itWhat load is getting you 3000 fps?
This powder shot 2nd best in my rifle behind H-110 but either is an excellent choiceCase full of AA1680, SPP, 40 V-Max will give you excellent accuracy with low pressures @ about 3K. However, this load exceeds mag length so single load only.
Try the NTX bullet. They dont always exit on large grounghogs.35 gr V-max over H110 has been my go-to for years, but it's hard on fur. I also run the 46 gr Hornady Bee bullets as a reduced load for raccoons (about like 22 mag).
All good advice above. But darn sure know what your twist is should be #1.I want to get into reloading 22 Hornet. What is the best shape and weight for distance ( maybe 200 yds).
Hornady still has a 45 grain flat base spire point on their list, one load they show in their 3rd edition that I used years ago is Win 296, start load 8.7 grain, max at 12.4 grain, they list 2,900 FPS.I want to get into reloading 22 Hornet. I have an old Anschutz that has a .223" bore and it's a rear lug gun. This combo demands caution when loading high end loads. I believe the CZ and the Browning are the only magazine fed guns with front lugs. Another thing is many rifles have a 16 twist and will not stabilize 40 grain boat tail bullets. Good luck and happy shooting, the Hornet is a great little round.I want to get into reloading 22 Hornet. What is the best shape and weight for distance ( maybe 200 yds).
