Show and tell 6mmBR coyote gun.

Wgood,

.080 free bore was absolutely perfect in my 6BR from 75 V-max up to 105 Berger VLD. 95 Bergers VLD absolutely drive tacs. Shot placement is absolutely critical on coyotes. I always hold behind the shoulder if at all possible, or if within 200yds dead center if facing me. Again, placement is everything. Any bullet shot or hit on the edges will be ugly no matter the bullet type. Shoot straight!

Paul
I agree and a lot of times shot placement can be tricky on the elusive coyote when running! I’d like to get the VLD/hunting bergers when they come around again. These 95vld sit exactly in the n/s junction. I’m not going up into the 105s. The urbanrifleman did a freebore study on the BRA which seemed to align with what I’m doing. I have 7.5 twist so I doubt going lighter will be help either. As for brass it’s easier to find on the prairie than the black hills!!!! I don’t leave without it!

I paired this 6BR with a Swaro Z8i and hunt coyotes, deer and any other small game using Bart’s 68 avengers. Plenty of kills beyond 400 yards, but I very much prefer to call them in.

I’m late to the party, but I’d be very careful with the 95 vld target. They are rock hard and while some REALLY detonate, as many or more fail- even at 243 velocities. The 87 VLDH is a good choice, but I prefer small bullets as I do not want an exit.

I like that cheek piece. ( and the rifle!). What is that stock?

Oh yeah I remember now...the stock I wanted 6 yrs ago but didnt want to wait 6 mos to get one. And I still dont have one! kind of like suppressors!

You’d have had it 5 1/2 years now haha.

They’re usually in stock somewhere, they just take some digging. Minor ejection port changes are no step for Jon

I believe an awful lot of people seem to think a coyote is like shooting a ballon or wet paper bag. Get sloppy with your shots and you will have runners. These critters will to live is amazing. I have seen first hand a dog run over a half mile through cut corn stalks, dragging guts before expiring.
Years ago I hunted a farm with a coyote problem. Gent before us was shooting 22-250 or a Swift forget which. Of the half dozen or so we killed, all had some nasty splash marks. Later on one of the guys I hunted with found out the guy had loaded some 40 grain bullets more intended for Hornet use.

I built this rifle a few years ago.Rem 700 fully blueprinted action with Kiff bolt.26"Krieger 1-8T Rem varmint contour barrel.jewel trigger.Mcmillan-Lazzeroni thumbhole stock.Teflon coated.6BR 269NK.Nightforce 8-32×56.85 grn Sierra varminters.@3000fps.varget.really tack drives.crows, rabbits 500+yds.loads of foxes and deer also.its one of those rifles which you don't want to put down..shoots lights out.

Nice! with that scope its kinda like having a carry handle on a M16! what bullets you find works best for deer?
85grn sierra varminters (soft point)are really good on deer.ive shot lots of red deer with this rifle.i neck shot a hind not to long ago around 180ish yards.no exit hole it just expanded the deer looked like it had swallowed a football.nice on roe deer aswell.i shot a stag in the engine room 246yds.swarovski range finder binos confirmed.the bullet went in broke a rib and no exit the deer trotted 50ish yds.swayed and fell over.organ damage was excellent. also hardly any carcase damage when dressed out.i do mainly head or neck shoot deer with this rifle..it really tears up foxes.it amazes my friend how far I shoot crows and rabbits and how good such a little cartridge is..he had to have one.i built him this on a Tikka 595 action.Bartlein 8T flutted barrel mcmillan carbon stock.it cycles the 6br flawlessly.

6mm Dasher(my brass says 6br, does that count;))
I pick them off from afar. I’ve shot them 350y to 750y in these river bottoms. January, February & March are good times up there. Coyotes are very territorial during mating season. Just takes a few howls from the bluff of a morning, there’s a pretty good chance one will be in the field below somewhere within a couple hours.

More impressive when they are lined up and you don’t shoot the heads… Just Sayin…
Next to PDs, turtle shooting was the best thing I did while visiting the US. I have on video me disintegrating a big ole boy off a log with a .22-250. Bits flying everywhere. We found a great pond and had an extended session with the rimfires. The farmer said there was a heap washed up a few days later. You've gotta be on your game with those small heads moving across the water, especially with the wind.
